Where to live in Canada? |
I wanted to live somewhere near the water/beaches. I don't really care about the weather but i would prefer if it wasn't too cold. I was hoping to live in a smaller town near a big city. I can speak French fairly well (enough to get around and have conversations but not fluent)I am willing to learn more French to become fluent if that is necessary.
Does anyone have any suggestions? Thank you so much to any help; if you need me to answer any more questions to find a place that is fine. |

Learning French is always a plus, but it's not 100% required, especially if you choose not to reside in the province of Quebec. If, however, you decide to move to Quebec then learning French would be a real plus for you. But I wouldn't pressure yourself about it too much. I lived in Germany for 4 years, and after a couple years I had the language pretty much down and could function well.
As for a suggestion on where to live. One of the nicer areas would be in south-western Ontario. There is a community near Windsor/Detroit called "Lakeshore" which is situated near Lake St-Clair. The housing market there is very affordable. You can get a lot of house for less money than you would pay elsewhere. Your chances of finding waterfront property at a good price is also very high. Belle River and Deerbrook in particular are nice places to live. Proximity to big cities (Detroit, Windsor, London, Toronto, Niagara Falls, Buffalo) is advantageous too. Most of these are just a couple hours drive at most.
This area also boasts one of the lowest snowfall rates in Canada, and the summers are warm and dry most of the time. Good luck. |

What about Duncan BC? (It's pretty small, I don't kow how small you wanted)
It's about 50 minutes according to google maps to Victoria, and about 3 hours to Vancouver.
It's on Vancovuer Island so it is really mild there, and unfortuantely very rainy.

We visited Prince Edward Island this past summer if you want a really beautiful place where the people are friendly. There are plenty of beaches |

You need to start to apply for permission to move to Canada now. It takes a while so you will have time to research places.

Montreal would be probably the best choice specially because of your French and your willing to become fluent. However I think North Vancouver (totally the other side) would also be a good candidate. It's near the water has a smaller town atmosphere, and its right beside Vancouver. |

I highly recommend Kingston, ON. It's right on Lake Ontario, so there's tons of outdoor education like canoeing/camping. Its a small town (not TOO small) and it's 2 hour drive to Ottawa; 3 to Toronto; close to US border. There are many provinical parks and beaches nearby. The temperature is moderate, similar to Ohio or Michigan, but with a bit more snow. I live there and I have to say, I LOVE it here. People are friendly, hardly polluted, no traffic jams, but big enough so it's not that boring :) |

You don't even really need to speak french unless you want to live in quebec. And even so i've been there. And they pretty much all spoke english to me anyways. Montreal is a really nice city-very clean but it's huge. If you want a small town near water nova scotia, PEI, or Newfoundland would be where it's at. Although there arn't as many jobs there. I live in Alberta and mostly been here all my life. B.C. is also a really beautiful place and in Vancouver it's alot warmer. Thats also by the ocean too. Alberta is screaming for employees still though, and Saskatchewan is booming too. Saskatchewan is full of small towns absoultly everywhere. Just look at a map. I've spent lots of time there. B.C., expecially the vancouver area is really into art. I don't know too much about Onterio or Manatobia. And anything Northern is probably going to be colder than you're liking. Hope that helps. |
