Where would be better for a bachelor party: Toronto or Montreal?

Montreal - fer sure

In addition to what everyone's mentioned about younger drinking age, more liberal strip bars and a generrally more dynamic city.. a couple more points:

1. Quebecois women are sexy - event if they're not that pretty the have this certain "je ne sais quoi" that just oozes sexiness.

2. You can have a good time for less money in Motreal

3. Selling of booze is much more liberal - more like what I imagine you would be used to in NYC.. they sell booze in corner stores, which are called "depaneurs" (DAY-PAN-OORS)

and while French is more predominantly spoken there, you will be able to get by as a tourist

a caveat though - Montreal cops are notoriously brutal - so watch that you don't get too rowdy and out-of hand

also - despite what some geographically-challenged people might claim, Montreal is closer to drive to (no Great Lakes to circumnavigate, eh)

Montreal. All the drinking and stripping laws are loser in Quebec, the sort of thing I think you might be looking for in a bachelor party.

Bars are open an hour later.
Bars allow in people a year younger (18)
French strip clubs are more liberal.
Even when in Ontario I find the hottest and most fun dancers are from Quebec.

Even if the specifics listed aren't what you are looking for, it show the general cultural differences of this is the place with the atmosphere you are looking for.

Unstable Mentality

Toronto is the largest city in Canada so there is sure to be some action somewhere there.

Another nice thing about Toronto is it doesn't have as many French Canadians as Montreal does. After Paris, Montreal is the second largest French speaking city in the Western world. Maybe that's a selling point for your friend however. Finding a couple of real French Maids could be nice for the bachelor party but I think you could find some of those in Toronto as well.

EDIT: He is from New York so he is used to a$$holes I'm sure.

Honestly, you can't go wrong with either.

Montreal has a more exotic feel as it's like North American Europe. The party scene there is crazy, and the bars are open late. You don't need to know French at all to get by, so don't worry about that. Expect a slightly younger crowd at the bars and clubs as the drinking age is 18, and even then you can get in younger. If you do plan on going to a strip club, Montreal wins in that department (ask the cab driver to take you to "Super Sex").

Toronto is big, and a lot of the main clubs and bars are conveniently located close together in the "Entertainment District". No French anywhere in Toronto, and some of the best restaurants, clubs, bars and lounges outside of New York. Very attractive woman, and no teenagers in the clubs.

It's hard for me to say one or the other really. I live in Toronto and have a blast here, although I've had the best New Years of my life doing up Montreal. So really, you just can't go wrong with either.

Well, obviously, Toronto's closer, but we got more as$holes in this city than your New York. Trust me, I know, I've lived in both places (Toronto for much longer) and I can tell you that the people in Toronto are much more likely to run over their own mothers just to get to their destination a few minutes faster. People are dumber, too. But Montreal's much further, still has more snobs than New York but not as much as Toronto, and they have more culture. You know what? Just go to Ottawa. I wouldn't want to live there because of the employment, but it's definitely a party town on Saturdays, people are a hell of a lot nicer, MUCH cleaner on the streets and few bums, too. The mayor of Ottawa knows what he's doing.

Remember, like drugs, say "no" to Toronto.
