Which area to choose when moving to Canada?

Hi, I would like to move to Canada with my wife and two children. Problem is where do you choose? I have been to Alberta for 3 months and really loved it but it is different when you have a family. My wife is a teacher so a good school for her would be great, she is also diabetic and we need treatment for her. Any suggestions or websites that give advice or benefits of the different places?
Additional Details
By the way - I live in downtrodden, stab land Britain with mass pollution and high rates of heart disease, I'm happy with my choice so no silly comments to earn points thanks!

Calgary has the most vibrant economy, lowest taxes and most sunshine of any major Canadian city. Calgary also has great schools, low crime, superior healthcare and the Rockies are just a short drive to the west and are just beggin to be explored by you. The drawback: very cold winters. Bear in mind though that they are somewhat mitigated by the Chinook winds that can bring temps up by 40 degrees (Fahrenheit) in a few hours and also that even if cold, it'll probably still be sunny.

Vancouver's got much cooler summers and warmer winters, but you have to put up with higher taxes, higher cost of living overall and the continual winter gloom that goes on month after month.

Toronto's fantastic but super expensive.

Those are the three that I've seriously considered myself. Good luck!

My suggestion would be to decide exactly what you need, and then visit city web sites to see what they have that you like and what you don't. Toronto, for instance has everything you could want in a city, but it also has a high crime rate. Small towns in Alberta or even the smaller cities give you the piece of mind, but the housing is a little ritzy.

For more of a country life, maybe small town Saskatchewan or Alberta would be the best. As for the teaching jobs, I'm sure if you go onto the provincial education websites they have their jobs listed there. It actually might be the best place to start.

I have lived in Manitoba, Saskatchewan, and Alberta and I prefer Saskatchewan because it is affordable and has a low population and low crime rate.

Well.. you know it's really what you're into to be honest.

Alberta and Saskatchewan have the hottest economies in CAnada right now. You can a job easier there than anywhere else.. and Albertans are the lest taxed in the country resulting in more economic freedom.

I live in Alberta... have lived in BC briefly. It was harder to get a good paying job in BC, but it is very nice out there.

I may sound like a homer here... but Alberta is nice. You should check out Priddis, Black Diamond, Longview, and Lundbreck. Also, checvk out Lethbridge, Medicine Hat, Red Deer and smaller cities aorund Edmonton.

The only reason I ask is because you obviously don't like high crime and high population density... those places I listed are medium sized cities to smaller towns located on the prairies or in the foothills.... so fresh air, good employment, nice folks, and close to amenities.

Best of luck to you.

Since you've only been in Alberta for 3 months you've yet to experience an Alberta winter. You might want to consider the fact that Alberta can be frigidly cold for months at a time and when the snow blows, the snow really blows. South coastal British Columiba has the most temperate winter climate in the country. You'd probably find it similar to winters in the UK. Lots of grey days with rain, rain, rain. Summertime though, is magnificent. Vancouver is a vibrant city of 2.5 million people. You didn't mention your profession so it's difficult to know whether you'd find the kind of work you'd like there but certainly a qualified school teacher could find work without too much difficulty.

If you have your choice of anywhere.... go to the west coast. Vancouver area or Fraser Valley (Abbotsford, Chilliwack etc..)
Healthcare decent , climate good, economy good and demand for teachers (qualified)

Alberta is crying out for professionals, Even fast tracking them through immigration which can take years they promise less than 12 months. Alberta has the lowest taxes in Canada. The largest growth in economy & lowest unemployment. But remember it has those extremely cold winters. -26 degrees is no joke thats the coldest it got one time I was there & the locals said it get's way colder.
