It would depend on how old your children are, but Toronto is the New York City of Canada.
They have great shopping, theaters, a great zoo close by, Canada's Wonderland is just northeast of there and Niagara Falls is only about 1 1/2 hours away. Other nearby attractions include, Ontario Place, the Canadian National Exhibition at the end of August, Centerville (an island with an amusement park), not to mention countless great restaurants and miles and miles of underground stores.
We love it there and staying a month would be wonderful!
Good Luck! |

I have to agree with Marie. Saint John NB would be my choice too. I've been there on business trips, and would love to spend more time there.
Plus there's so much of the maritimes you could day trip to from there. You're proximate to fundy national park, the ocean, whale watching, and my grandmother :) |

I would head to Banff, Alberta. (town not a city) Calgary if you really want a city. Stay in the mountains and there is so much to do! However, we are outdoors kind of people so it suits us.
It would all depend on the family and what that family prefers ie: shopping, hiking, amusment parks, beautiful scenery, beaches, etc. |

to the posters above ontario and cape breton are not cities. I like saint john, its not too big, not to small close enough to the country to get out of the city, close enough to the water (Fundy, love Fundy) to see it and smell it. lots of historical points of interest and it is a city with a story. check it out...
pssst sorry that is in new brunswick in case your not canadian |

Vancouver without a doubt...i lived there for a year and i loved it.
For a family it would be great cos u got beaches, parks, mountains. The PNE will be on in the summer -its a fair, kids would like it. Also if u have a car, there's lots of places that vancouver is near to that u can go visit...whistler, deep cove (great for kayaking),white rock, vancouver island - u can even fly there on a seaplane or take ferry. Also Seattle - about a 4hr drive.
there's lots of great restaurants, esp if u like asian food.Theres a mall out in metrotown, which i think is the biggest in b.c.
It never gets really humid like the east of canada, and the air is fresher due to all the nature.
Also u can go whale watching from granville island.
and celebration of light is usually on end of july, start of august...its fireworks down by english bay...amazing |

Calgary, AB... many attractions and amenities, right in the foothills of the rocky mountains, which opens up even more to do
banff, olympic village, calaway park, zoo, shopping, and they are to be starting on a gigantic mall in Airdrie (a suburb) not sure where you're from, but bigger than mall of america or west ed mall |

vancouver-- mild, but warm summers.. you can visit victoria on a 1.5 hour ferry ride or whistler with a 2 hour drive.. you can drive down to the states for some outlet shopping in 2 hours...
you've got the ocean and the mountain in your backyard.. it's not half bad :) a month is a long time to stay somewhere, and vancouver will you keep you busy with its parks, amusement park (pne), and shopping.
there are tons of gorgeous rental properties that you can rent for a family for a decent price rather than stay in a hotel and this way you can eat in as well |

Victoria, British Columbia....it's so beautiful there and there is so much to do! You can go for the quiet nature side of it hiking many of the beautiful hills around the city, or spend the day near the harbour shopping, seeing the sights, taking in the street vendors and the crowds. It's just all around the nicest Canadian city I've been to!! |
