Canadian side. I've been on both ends and the Canadian end is more fun. There's a bit more to do I find.

Falls-wise the US side has the outdoor walk among the rocks and mist of the so called Ammerican Falls. That is it. The Cdn side has better views and much more to do.

Canadian side is much more touristy. Clifton Hill, wax museums, tons of restaurants, cheesy tourist shops selling maple leaf flags, clubs, casinos, beautiful park area along the falls, skylon tower...

Niagara Falls NY does have some interesting places but they don't seem to play up the tourist angle as much. Once you get a block or two away from the bridge it's pretty much like any other slightly economically depressed city. However they do have a rather large outlet mall if you want to go pay for overpriced "designer" items

If you are going to be in the area and have the documentation to cross the border check the Falls our from both sides.
