It's next to Alaska in Canada. I hear it's beautiful and if you're a nature lover it's great. |

It is northwest Canada. It can be cold there in the winter. (I mean -40 degrees is cold isn't it?)
Not sure about a French school but there is quite a bit of info at the web site below. |

I know it's in Canada, but my seven-year-old asked me yesterday if it was in Canada or the states, she had thought Canada but apparently her teacher had said the states. So, there's us, and her teacher (here in Switzerland). I think it's 50 below zero in winter, based on the Robert Munsch book. In the summer it probably does get warm. Come to think, there is a French school in Whitehorse--my former online friend Andrea wanted to learn French so she could send her daughter there (although I'm not sure if that would actually make her daughter eligible).
Um, it's a territory. Had a gold rush around a hundred years ago. It's also a variety of potato but I don't know if they actually grow in the Yukon. I'm guessing you see the Northern Lights. |

It's a territory in Canada's North. It's not super cold like it use to be, but it still averages -30 in the winter time. Summer temps will go up to +20 and lows of +15.
I don't know about a french school but with the population being as small as it is, I wouldn't think there is one there.
Whitehorse is the largest city and capital of Yukon. |

The Yukon does get cold in the Winter and has a lot of snow. In the Summer it is quite pleasant with good fishing and many things to do. There are lots of mosquitoes though so you need OFF and use it a lot. There are many lakes and mountains with all kinds of wild life to see.
I don't know if there is a French school there but all students in Canada are required to take French in school. Canada has two official languages, English and French.
The Yukon is one of Canada's three territories along with our ten Provinces. The Yukon is in the west up close to Alaska.
It is a very nice place to visit as is all the rest of Canada! Why don't you come up and see us sometime? |

I've been there, I know what it is, and I know where it is. I know that in the summer the days are 23 hours long, except for midsummer's eve when the day is 24 hours long and there is a 24-hour baseball tournament that is unique.
In the summer it's very warm, but in the winter, it's cold. When you're that far north, that's the way the weather works. And the days are much shorter in the winter.
By a french school, do you mean an immersion school? I know French is offered in the schools, but I'm not sure about a total immersion program. For that, you'd have to check with the YT Board of Education.
If you're into big city living, Yukon isn't for you. This is still pioneer country. That doesn't mean you'll do without any amenities -- they have all the services that big cities do, but there is a lot of country up there and not very many people, so you won't have the Broadway touring shows, or Celine Dionne. But maybe that's not such a downer after all....
If you're into outdoor sports, like hiking, hunting, canoeing, skiing, ski-doos and that sort of thing, you will love the Yukon. |
