Rule #1 of asking a question. Never base your question on your own assumption that in itself is largely debatable, and in this case, has no basis in fact.
So we insult you guys every chance we get? Usually the complaint is that we know nothing about you, yet we insult you? How in the world is that possible to have enough knowledge of a country to be able to come up with an insult that suits that country, yet at the same time be considered not knowledgeable to even know anything about that country?
We like you Canadians. We consider you like cousins. We know that you guys probably don't think the same way about us, but let's be honest. The U.S. doesn't have many countries in the world right now that think highly of us.
We like you. We like you a lot. After 9/11 you let us into your homes when we were stranded at the airports in Canada. You brought us toiletries and gave us beds to sleep in and roofs above our heads. You put up signs in houses in places like Gandor that said "Hey, Americans! If you want to come in for a hot shower or something to eat, just knock on the door." Perhaps our previous President forgot that, but we the people have not. Wherever you're getting your information is horribly incorrect, but if you want to believe that we don't like you if it'll strengthen your argument that we insult you at every chance we get, don't let that get in the way of a nice rant against us. Everyone else does it. Why should you be any different?
Troll on, and let the thumbs down commence. |

I've heard they do that a lot as well! It's so people overseas won't judge them based on the fact they are American. It's a shame that they are too embarrassed of their country to be able to represent it abroad.
Also most people can't tell the difference between the accents. (Me for example, and I'm Aussie - I can never tell). |

I've witnessed this first hand in two countries in Europe: Belgium and France. At the time it didn't really bother me because those people were nice (although I was at first insulted when this gorgeous Southern chick thought I was from the States and said she was from "The State of Ontario"... of which I then rather publicly teased her... but since she was cute I offered to buy her a coffee anyways).
The only time it would really bug me is if really arrogant ones were ruining our reputation... it's like... just because you've ruined your own reputation it doesn't mean you should ruin ours too.
I don't really think they try and cut into us very much. some of them do, just like some of us do to them. Typically when they tease us it's good natured ribbing, not really malicious degrading.
To tell you the truth almost no one overseas (in my experiences) could really tell the difference. Alot of them did comment on how Canadians wear flags on their back-packs, and thought it was rather immature (of which, I whole heartedly agree).
I mean... I don't care where the person is from... if you dislike someone simply becuase they come from some geographic location what does that really say about you (not YOU, but you get the jist of what I'm saying). I wouldn't really want to be associated with those people anyways. |

Who here is tired of all the American & Canadian Bashing that goes on regularly in Y/A?? Questions like this have no place in Y/A. Maybe if people would grow up and and find another hobby there would a lot less infantile questions asked. Leave the asking for people who legitimately want to know something.
In all my years of travels I have not come across any one from another country passing themselves off to be from another country, but I have come across people who will try to avoid the question when asked. |

It doesn't really bother me. Americans do this sometimes when going to dangerous locations where Americans aren't liked. By pretending to be Canadian, they're protecting themselves.
The only time this could be a problem is if said American messes up, and gives a bad reputation to Canada. I doubt this would happen though, based on the very few instances where this happens.
I agree with what SaskAries said though; this doesn't really belong on Yahoo! Answers; it's not so much a question, as a debate, which doesn't work so well on Answers.

This is the first I've heard of such a thing.
An insult only works if you decide to be insulted. It's a lot easier on some days to just ignore any tripe than others, I concede, but it's worth your while to just let such hate-filled trash go by the wayside.
Life is too short to get embroiled in un-winable arguments with other people.

Mr. Natural's answer provides the perfect opportunity to simply laugh at such a sad attempt to insult Canadians. |

I really don't think thats a factor anymore, especially since Canada got involved in Afghanistan. It was the case years ago but in the last 5 years I've traveled extensively around the world (Afghanistan, Bosnia, Croatia, Slovenia, England, Greece, Spain, Poland, UAE, India, Pakistan, Gibraltar, Turkey, The Netherlands....) and the stereotypical American traveling as a Canadian just doesn't happen much any more. |

I am!
American's are disliked, so they just put on a viel and pretend to be Canadian..... but yet they still have their American traits, thereby putting a stain on views people have on Canadians.
it's disgusting. |

Who here is tired of Canadians moving to America when
a) they get tired of igloos and beaver meat, and
b) they become famous actors, singers or comedians?
Occasional conversation in the US:
'Hey, did you know ______ is actually Canadian?'
'No way, really?'
'Yeah.'
'What's Canadian?' |
