There are actually 3 falls that make up the Niagara Falls, the American Falls, which is the highest, the Bridal Veil Falls, and the Horseshoe Falls. Of these only the horseshoe falls are within the border of Canada. So to answer your question, both countries own the falls, just different parts of it, and different views. |

Both...there are actually two sets of falls. Horseshoe falls is the "popular" one...the one people who try to go over the falls go over. That is owned by Canada. But there is another set (Bridal Veil Falls) just down the way. If you have ever seen it, it is covered in rocks at the bottom (so you would get killed going over them). That is owned by the US.
I found a pic of both on the main page of wikipedia. |

Canada and the US share Niagara Falls. Canada owns the Horseshoe Falls, the ones that are largest and most impressive, the ones most tourists come to see. The US owns the smaller falls - I'm not sure of their name - the Bridal Falls I think. |

It's on both sides of the border. The US part is a New York State Park. |

"The International Joint Commission prevents and resolves disputes between the United States of America and Canada under the 1909 Boundary Waters Treaty and pursues the common good of both countries as an independent and objective advisor to the two governments.
In particular, the Commission rules upon applications for approval of projects affecting boundary or transboundary waters and may regulate the operation of these projects; it assists the two countries in the protection of the transboundary environment, including the implementation of the Great Lakes Water Quality Agreement and the improvement of transboundary air quality; and it alerts the governments to emerging issues along the boundary that may give rise to bilateral disputes." |
