Alberta has had a stat Family Day for 17 years. Saskatchewan celebrated its first one this year, and Manitoba has been considering one since February.
Ontario is not being creative or unique by any means. |

Yes Alberta has a Family Day. The problem with it is that too many stores are still open and too many families can't spend the day together.
However, for those of us that can, we enjoy it. |

obviously, i don't pay enough attention to the news, because i haven't heard of it. (too much time on y/a). if it's another day off no one will care what it's called. no one knows what the august civic holiday is for, right?, be we do like it! |

YIPPEE another day off. Just look at it as a bonus sick day you have just saved right? LOL
And what a great concept! Just think, people will be actually forced to spend the day together as a family. That's gonna urp some people I can already tell. ♥
And it's on the THIRD Monday of February FYI - who can't use a holiday in February? Good ski weekend in Quebec and Carnivale would be in order.... |

I think it's significant and the name is appropriate, after all it will be for a day with family, so really I don't know what other name it should go by. In America they have Columbus day, more holidays than us, a name should not matter. I think we should have John Cabot Day, as American's celebrate Columbus day. We are few and far between for Statutory holidays the Americans have us beat on that. |

i do.but if you get the day off who cares right. |

not familier with canadian holidays....but if its like mothers day and fathers day or secretary week...then its all crap...its just a supposadly another day for the consumer to spend more money for things we should be buying those people any ways...every day should be special for those who have raised us or who do our office work while we sit in our nify recliners...there are to many redundant hollidays..to me one of the most stupid one is veterans day...all the government people get the day off ..why not the veterans...columbus day...again banks and government and schools...but not the everyday labor force...holidays are made up for the benefits of those who want the perks of having them.... |
