Why are Canadians and Canada the butt of many jokes?

Its just ignorance. The jokes you hear about Canada and Canadians are almost always a mile off of the realities of living in the country. Even the nice things people say are hilarious at times. I'm such a nice Canadian you should send me tons of money cause it's a hell of a cross to bear. Some Americans just cant figure us out because we're so much similar yet very different in mentality. Listen buddy, you wanna talk jokes try looking at it from our side of the border. For every "square, polite or simple" joke told about Canadians we've got a hundred more about you . We make fun of more people and countries than probably anywhere else on Earth. Thats why we're the funniest people in the world. Imagine if we had 300 million people. What a bozo. ha ha (jokes are jokes, Canada is the U.S. #1 ally in the world)

We allow it because we do have a good sense of humour and if that is the the only way Americans can feel superior over us, by making fun of us. I say go nuts.

Canadians and Canada in general is not the only country that is made fun of.Here are some common stereotypes or jokes made about people from certain countries:

Canadians
- Live in igloos
- Say "eh" at the end of every sentence

Southern Americans:
-Live in trailer parks
- Are dumb, stupid, ignorant

British:
- Have bad teeth

Mexicans:
- Dirty
- Poor

French and other Europeans:
- Smell bad and never shower

I am Canadian, and I notice that people in Canada don't make jokes about the US to be funny ... but they are really nasty about Americans. Some Canadians call Americans dumb, ignorant, fat, dirty, etc. I have seen a lot of anti American comments from Canadians on Yahoo Answers.

I guess it depends on your point of view. Here in Montreal, we make fun of Ontario, the Maritimes, Americans, and just about anyone quite frankly. Same goes for the rest of Canada that likes to make fun of the french and the Quebec culture, or the Americans that make fun of both their neighbours Canada and Mexico.

If you look at Robin Williams at MSG, you will see some really good Canadian jokes. If you watch South Park, you"ll see the mean jokes. But theyare all jokes. Rick Mercer up here has a really funny show about what Americans know about Canada that shows the ignorance of some people in the states...my guess the same could be done in reverse about Canada.

I find that you have to have a sense of humor about everything. If you take life too seriously, you really are not gonna enjoy the life you have.

sad, all so sad, sad question and sad answers, i am american and have been around a long time, and i know this, there is nothing wrong with cnadains, they are hard working people and have a good things going for them up there, always remember this ( this is directed to the young from both sides of the border that speak before they think).....look at what's going on globally with all the hate and bloodshed, there will come a time, maybe not in my time but in your time where sides will have to be taken to survive the big one, and i'll tell you what, i wouldn't mind one bit standing side by side with my good neighbors to the north....we are more alike then you think....as for the jokes, well as they say, sticks and stones

You just happen to be sensitive to the Canadian variety.
Don't let them see that it bothers you.

Canadians are very confident people.We do not care about Americans with their silly jokes. We have class and the Canadians are only half the population of the USA!!

We Canadians just shake our heads at this and we go on our Merry way!!
