I have noticed that also. The way I figure it is that they are the only group in Canada that has an identity. Therefore they don't have this insecurity towards Americans to prove to the world that the are NOT Americans..

The way the world views English speaking Canada is that they are not Americans.

Just your typical Quebec "joie de vivre".

Of course, narrow-minded English Canadians disagree with that answer. Just look at the number of thumbs down here.

Dead Day Afternoon
This must be a joke.

Ha Ha Ha! That's a good one. French Canadians have a reputation for rudeness. If you are a Yankee, and have visited La Belle Province, you would likely have stayed in a hotel. The hotel staff is excessively polite to everyone they encounter, because they are expecting a tip and because they'll get fired if they aren't polite. But the average french-speaking French Canadian is not, and never has been, noted for being polite.

More polite than who? Since you are a "Yankee", I assume you're asking why French Canadians are more polite than Americans?

I'm wondering how many experiences you are basing this on as well. I've met lots of Americans as well as French Canadians many many times over the years and have had different experiences both ways. I don't think you can generalize like that with any sort of accuracy.

EDIT: I think some people here have too much time on their hands and should just grow up and find something productive to do. Children....*sigh*

You must be referring to hotel staff and whatnot, as Quebecois are as rude as they come. Not just to Yanks, but to English speaking Canucks as well. And most Canucks in Ontario don't speak French in their everyday conversations.
