Why can't we in Canada have a passport that is valid for 10 years like it is in the U.S. ?

One reason I can think of is that people change a lot in appearance in 10 years. With its greater emphasis on security I would not be surprised to see the US adopt Canada's way in this regard.

WOW! First time that I have heard a Canadian want anything like the US. The US government is so inefficient it couldn't replace passports any faster, I'm surprised that our passports aren't valid for 20 years or for life.

I looked a lot different 10 years ago, if your having a photo on it 10 years is too long

u r dumb
HOnestly we are a different country so I would not expect our laws to be the same as the USA .It's like saying why do we not have the same political goverment system

Anyways to let you know which might make you happy
a new change was implemented. If you have an expired passport that is within a year you no longer need to fill out an entire application and get signatures...You just take your old one and the passport fees and it gets renewed

NOw considiering the benefits of living in canada to the USa even our subsidized health care I prefer to live in Canada

Having lived in Canada for five years, In British Columbia, dealing with any government department was typical of BC (bring cash). The government does not supply a service, just want your cash. Get a driving licence - first one 2 years - cost $60.00 - next one $80.00 for 5 years - it is called money, money & more money!¬
A passport is the same, when you renew it, it is more money in the government coffers!

because the government wouldn't make as much money

My idea is that the more we have to renew our passports, the more money the gov't makes. Sounds typical of them.
