Why do Canadians not wear fur during winter months? |
Like the russians do.
Why are all of you so afraid of the animal rights terrorist (I refuse to call them activist, as I believe they are mocking animal rights and not doing anything for animal rights). |

We do wear fur in the winter months. Not everyone does of course but lots of people still do particularly in the northern regions.
I have a fur trimmed parka I wear. I also have a faux fur formal coat.
My Grandmothers both have seal skin coats they were all winter long. |

we aren't in russia. in most places it's not cold enough to wear fur and there are modern fabrics that are just as warm. |

Wow...
well, fur is more expensive for one thing, modern technology has graced us with cheap, light, warm, waterproof, windproof fabrics, why not use them? |

Where I live in Northern Canada it is sometimes 40 to 50 below celcius, so I can honestly say that a down filled parka worn with ski pants is warm enough. It's also a lot cheaper then fur. Many parkas made for this climate have a fur ruff around the hood to help keep out the wind, but fake fur is just as good for this purpose. However I agree that most animal rights activists don't understand the real issues. Trappers don't use leg hold traps anymore. Trapping is done by humane methods, using a snare that kills the animal quickly. Personally I don't like it because we don't really need the fur, but the animals raised on factory farms for meat suffer a great deal more. Yet people think it's a crime to wear fur, but it's okay to call yourself a vegetarian because you eat chicken. |

I don't think anyone can bunch all of us who live in Canada into the same climate. We have different climates as you go farther north or south, different climates on the coasts, on the prairies, in mountainous areas and in central Canada.
I'm sure some people do but I think most people who don't wear fur are not wearing it because it's easier (and less expensive) to buy synthetic materials, and just as warm. |

You haven't been in Eastern Canada in the winter lately, have you? Lots of people wear fur. Some people prefer to wear some of the newer, warmer and less costly alternatives, but that's because they are easier to handle than furs. But there is still a large percentage of the population that wears furs in winter. |

I prefer down filled or one of the man made fiber coats simply because the weight of fur (and some other fibers such as great coats are made of) aggravates my back problems.
Now you know and this does sound like you are trying to start a rant. |

Whoa! Take a deep breath and relax a bit, okay?
What makes you think we are "...so afraid of the animal rights terrorist..."? Was your question designed to introduce some sort of rant? Why not learn a bit about Canadian climate before assuming we're "afraid" of anything? |

some people wear fur others choose not to wear fur, it's a personal choice, it's not a national identity issue...and btw, u sound llike an idiot |

I'd say because in many places, you just don't need it to keep warm. Very few of us spend entire days outdoors. We're in the car, in and out of houses and offices. Fur is expensive unless you're trapping skinning and curing it yourself, and being that it's expensive you want to look after it. There are other cheaper things just as warm and easier to look after. I've got a beautiful vintage 3/4 length mink coat, but rarely wear it because I just don't attend events that call for a dressy fur. |

our weather is not as cold as russia, also i don't even think that all russians wear fur. besides the majority of the population lives close to the u.s. border so its not like the temperature drops 20 degrees the second you get into canada. |
