Why do a lot of Canadians Hate people from Quebec?

My stepdad is from Canada and he's always talking down on people from Quebec because he feels they get special treatment like the rest of the country has to make all of their labels bilingual while Quebec only keeps it in French. Where did this hatred originate because I've met a lot of people from Canada and don't like the people from Quebec either. And please, don't add anything like CANADA SUCKS AND USA RULES! I hate childish and immature answers...
Additional Details
Why does Quebec hate the rest of Canada too?? I'm so intrigued!

Why limit this question to Canadians. French Canadians are so different from the rest of the country. Have you ever travelled abroad, or to Mexico? French Canadians, don't behave the same as the rest of Canada. When you travel, quite often you will be asked, "what part of Canada" they want to know if you are french canadian. They are rude, unfriendly, don't tip and very arrogant. They leave a bad taste in peoples mouths after they are gone. They give Canadians a bad reputation. Sorry, but it is the truth.

thinkingtime
They don't.

Hate is a pretty strong word, many dislike what they perceive as preferential treatment to convince them to remain part of Canada. I go into Quebec often and have had great times there as well as a little less great times. There will always be extreme views either way on this subject, no reason to believe otherwise. Quebec has been a vital part of Canada since its' inception and I for one, hope they will remain an important part.

Being an American living in Quebec, I get to see things from an outside perspective. Sure, signs everywhere in Canada are mostly bilingual, while most of Quebec is just in French. So what, outside of Montreal, most Quebecois don't really speak English so there's no need to have English on everything. Montreal does though, so as an American, I have no trouble navigating the city.

As for government, Quebec gets screwed over quite often. There's a small party of separatists, but that doesn't make up all of Quebec. Most of the people I know really like being a part of Canada and think it's essential that they stay. I mean, separating got voted down, TWICE! Clearly, they want to stay.

I don't think most of Quebec hates Canada, it's just a different culture so a lot of misunderstandings arise from that. I think if Quebec and Canada were a little more open and friendly to each other, most of the hostility would clear out.

Q&A
I love people from Quebec! And I'm from BC, lots of people don't like Toronto

French Quebecers feel resentment towards the rest of Canada because they feel like a minority in their own country. Outside of big cities (mainly Montreal and Quebec City) most Quebecers are unilingual French, so living in an English country where they aren't understood seems 'foreign'. The resentment builds since they don't feel that this alienation is warranted (obviously). Canada was established by the French and looking back in history Quebecers feel it unfair that they seem "taken over" and then years later still made to feel like the outsider in their own land. The rest of Canada sees this frustration and sees Quebec as being pretentious in their desire to get "special treatment". And since the politics of separating from Canada have come into play, the rest of Canada has taken a "if you don't want to be here we don't want you here either" approach.
That said, I'm a 4th generation English Montrealer and I find this hostility ridiculous. I LOVE Montreal and I wish I didn't have to be bombarded by language tension. I understand that people want to keep their culture and don't want to lose themselves, especially with modern technology making the world so much smaller. English is the language of technology, and so I understand their worry that if they don't make sure French remains in the province it will just be 'run over'. But at the same time the establishment of language laws actually restricts the province. To be able to keep up with the modern world and deal outside of the province you NEED to speak English. It's just the way it is.
Anyways, that was a bit of a rant. All that to say, I think the resentment on both sides is absolutely stupid and unnecessary. And even though I'm an English person in Quebec (and often complain about french laws, etc!) I think the rest of Canada needs to understand Quebec and stop the negativity as well.

Oh I know this isn't a PC answer but what the hell. French society has always been proud of their heritage but in doing so, a lot of Quebecers have alienated themselves from the rest of Canada. They come across as arrogant and aloof, the same can be said for France. Very nice people but stubborn, opinionated and with the "me first" attitude. The separatist section of Quebec has only one agenda, there is no room for discussion. The Quebec language police and the language laws are good examples why Quebec has fallen out of favour with a lot of Canadians. Nothing wrong with being proud of your heritage but with so many different cultures in Canada, being French is not a reason for preferential treatment.

The 1995 referendum is a really sore point among Canadians. It was a 51% to 49% no vote from Quebec to separate from Canada. That in itself speaks volumes on how Quebecers feel about being Canadian.

Quebec doesn't like the rest of Canada.
They don't even want to be part of Canada, so why should we like them?

well funny that because Quebecers are Canadians so rally hard to hate yourself??
I think the issue is vastly overblown. I work with people in quebec all the time and there is no dislike or issues either way,

Well, Quebec is actually a war prize by English-speaking Canada. It was conquered by the British, and that is how Canada was founded. Anyone in Canada who speaks French as a first language tends to be unpatriotic to Canada, and so they are sort of viewed as traitors.

Also, Canada is very province-centric...

The majority of Canadians don't hate the people from Quebec, in fact I don't know anyone who does. The reason that some people talk negatively of Quebec is because they only have french throughout the entire province and, they had a separation referendum back some 13 years ago in October 1995 as well as started the federal political separatist party Bloc Quebecois. And from my experience being in Quebec the people are always friendly. Some of Quebec and their people want to separate and hate Canada because they only speak french and we only speak English.
