Why do people from Boston area say "cah" instead of "car"? Why does someone from Texas say "yall" instead of "you all"?
Its all about the accents. People in different regions say things a bit differently. That's what makes Canada and USA so great is our variety of languages, cultures, and mannerisms. I personally love the diversity!
By the way, not all of Canada says about the same way. You would hear people pronounce it "aboot" more often in the Atlantic provinces than you would in western Canada.
I personally don't know anyone who says "aboat". When I say it, it sounds like the word "out", Idon't know how y'all say it!

I always thought we said "a boot" not "aboat" :)
Its just a different dialect....just like a stereotypical Californian will talk "Valley Talk" and a Texan will have a drawl. Or someone in Minnesota talks very different from a person from Louisiana. :)
Remember too that your average Newfie talks very different from someone in the northern parts of the country or middle of the prairies.
Best accent I have heard is my cousin from Alabama who grew up in Newfoundland long enough to combine both of their accents. You know who she is when she calls on the phone! :D |

hey....you could argue, why do you say "about" instead of aboat. To be honest tho, people really over exagerate. I mean from country to country, province to province, state to state....there are going to be accent differences. This is just how people evolve, the way people talk evolves just like people do. Im canadian and i have never been told I say aboat....so i guess it depends on that individual and which province they originate from. Maybe I just dont notice it, cuz i am canadian. Ha
hope i helped |

I'm Canadian. I say ab-out'. Not aboat, or aboot, or anything like it. Some Canadians do say it that way, it's just their regional accent.
Why do some Americans say ruff for roof, and rut beer for root beer? Because they do. That's why. |
