People in the US think of Canada as being cold because it is located North of the US. In general, as you move North in the US, the weather gets colder.
Of course, other things can help determine the overall climate of an area. For example, if you live near the ocean, that moderates the temperature so that it doesn't get as cold or hot as other places (it takes longer for large bodies of water to change temperature than land). Also, valleys or mountains might affect the climate.
Enjoy the weather! |

We used to have this TV show that was actually imported from Canada called SCTV. It had a lot of really funny people on it. One of the regular features was "The Great White North" Making fun of Canada. It was ok because they really were Canadians. Even though few people remember it now, it left us with a hard to break stereotype of Canadians and Canada. |

Don't tell em, most Americans are not even sure where Canada is, they think that we live close to the North Pole.
Beside that, many of them still trying to find Luisiana on the map. |

Perhaps they mean on average. Also, with global warming the weather patterns are in chaos right now and old rules might not apply anymore. |

There are acutally around 25 US states that are (or partially) farther north than Canada's most southern spot. But some Americans are still struggling with the concept of walking uprigh, so it's not surprising that they think Canada is a frozen wasteland, we all speak french (or live in Toronto), and we all know one another. I don't think that global warming is an answer, as it affects the US weather as well (maybe more as it's government could care less about the environment). |
