Because it's their version of the word "um" here. Or "huh?" or something like that.
Just a silly little word... |

We have several uses for the word, "eh."
Refer to the following link, eh? (okay?)

I don't and I am from Canada. I've lived in both the states and canada, and actually hear Americans say it more. I think it's a stupid assumption. I went to Alberta once and people said it every once in awhile, but Calgary is a highly Americanized Canadian city. (I live in Ontario) |

I like it...
And it's just a word that we use over here in Canada.
There are lots of words that we pronounce differently.
roof and roof
creek and creek
so whatever eh!
Is it really a big deal???? |

They don't say it all the time, but it's really no different than Americans who end their sentences with "ya know?" or "huh?" I call it the equivilant of "n'est pas?" or "wouldn't you agree, ol' chap?" |

It's better than saying "huh" |

Good day eh! It pretty much all started with the Fonz from Happy Days and years later Bob and Doug McKenzie from the Great White North picked it up...Canadians will know who they are. So you see, it's really not a Canadian word...we took it from the u.s. eh. I think it's kind of a good little word eh. It's not used all the time and people probably don't know they use it eh. A handy little word that can be used for expressing yourself. Hi - Eh, That's cool - ehhhhh, Don't - eeh, and so on. |

It's like saying "huh"...most Canadians don't even realize their saying it...I know, I never until the Americans I know started to point it out to me ALL the time..I try not to say it around them... |

It's our version of the American.. "You know" . It is said when wanting to ensure that the other person you are speaking with understands what you are saying.. or is another way of asking whether they agree with what you are saying..
Nice day eh? Cool eh?... |

It's one of the few words we can spell. We get confused with more than two letters....
Give me a break! Canadians don't all say 'eh', nor do they say it all the time. It's simply an interrogative additive we tack on at the end of some sentences, just as other people say, "Right?" or "Okay?"
In fact, now that I look at it, it may simply be a corruption of Okay -- which is sometimes said, 'kay, and quite conceivably slipped down to 'ay' which someone wrote as 'eh' without recognizing the quellenbuch of the word. (That's a real word, and I just threw it in to prove that we can spell words with more than two letters in them. It means original document and this is probably much more than you really wanted to know.) |

Not all of us do. It's just a stupid generalization. |

I only say it when there are tourists around, it is fun to confuse them. after I put on my touque I always say, "Hot enough today, eh?"
seriously, it is not something I would say unless I am being sarcastic. |

we don't say it all the time, every so often we do but with all the media stuff its just sorta became like a "signature / sterotyped" thing. but we're still proud of it =p not insulted or anything lol |
