I definitely don't think that Canada is any less civilized than the US. I have a summer home in Nova Scotia, where my father's family is from and my brother goes to NSAC. I know that in certain small towns there are still outhouses and such but the same is the case for some parts of the US. I would almost rather live in Canada, as it is I spend 3 months out of the year there, the people are much more friendly! |

I've never thought about Canada that way...I just always thought it was super cold and hard to get back to the US once you live in Canada....My uncle lived in Canada a while back for a few years. I guess maybe they assume, because you never really hear a lot about Canada....I always wonder if maybe one day Canada is just going to take over the whole entire world....who knows. |

That's pretty sad. I don't personally know anyone who shares that view. I do know how stereotyping works, though. I live in northeastern Kentucky, and people believe that we are all uneducated, barefoot, and poor. It is sad to see the ignorance that is displayed when people make comments of the sort. I may talk with a slight drawl but that doesn't mean that I am stupid and live in a trailer located in a 'holler'. In fact, it is quite the opposite. I have two degrees and live in a brick 2-story house. Stereotypes are pathetic, and reflect as such on the person who voices them. Just because you have a Canadian accent doesn't mean that you do not have all of the amenities that are available everywhere else - that's just crazy. Take care, and don't let people like that get to you. Keep the accent and lose the idiots. ;) |

Never thought that about Canada...
In the back of my mind I think that about Ireland even though i know it isnt true... The reason is that I was last there 33 years ago, and there was no running water and we had to use an outhouse... So, thats the Ireland I remember... I probably should go back to update it :) |

I am an American and I don't think that.
I don't know why anyone would say that.
As an American, sorry to make you feel bad. Not all of us are so stupid and ignorant. |

It's all Shania Twain's fault! Everytime she is interviewd on T.V. she has to mention how poor she was growing up and had no running water in her House. LOL |

Americans dont think that about Canadians, we just tell that to Canadians to annoy the hell out of them, and the funny thing is,, you gullible Canadians actually think we are serious. I used to ask my one Canadian friend for years about what living in an igloo was like, it always made her so mad. The only think I can think is that Canadian have a real inferiority complex to think that kind of joking is actually serious. |

Some Americans a real idiots just as I am sure some Canadians, french and Brits are. It all comes with the territory. People with low self-worth need to make fun of others to feel superior to them...don't worry, they are just extremely sheltered. |

Why do Canadians think there are metal detectors at ALL (or even a majority of) American schools?!? |

They're ignorant towards the rest of the world as well. It's not just us.
Most of them can't even find Canada, the second largest country in the world, on the map!
Although, I must say that not all of them possess that attitude...just the arrogant, egotistical, uneducated ones.
A part of me chalks it up to jealousy. |

I have never thought that, I view Canda very much civilized. Yes, it must be ignorance. Here in America, there is ignorance of their own states, and stereotype people where they live. |
