Why does Americans make fun of Canadians?

Because when they come to America all they do is make fun of Americans and talk about how great Canada is and tell everyone they are from Canada when no one friggin cares. I don't go to Canada and say "I'm from America". Blahhh don't even get me started :D

P.S. I did not choose to be called an American that is just what we are called in history. I personally think it is the most pathetic thing ever that our ancestors chose to call ourselves the United States of America when there are infact 2 continents with the word "America" in it. And people who choose to come to the United State of America are in face choosing to come. I think it is embarrassing to call myself American because personally I think America sucks. I just think it's slightly rude for the Canadians who come here to buy cheaper things to say that they think they are sweeter because they are Canadian and some of them even have the nerve to ask if they get a discount for being Canadian. Believe me, I hate being American more than anything but I would rather be a good person that be someone who goes around bragging about where they are from. People like you who responded to this are the reason us "Americans" make fun of Canadians.

Personally, I am not making fun of Canadians overall. I love them, I really do. I just make fun of the one's who come here expecting to be pampered for being Canadian. Just like I would make fun of someone who was British or Irish or Russian... you get the point.

Well I am an American and any reason I make fun of Canadians is to make Canadians feel more powerful because they see how much of an idiot I am. And then the fact I can make such an idiot of myself puts the laughter on me, and I don't mind that so I joke about Canadian stuff but in a way that makes ME look like the idiot.

As far as my view of Canada and Canadians, I love them so much it hurts. They are the most tolerant bunch of people who appreciate the uniqueness of individuals regardless of social status and wealth. In Canada, the level of gender equality, economic equality, political diversity, all go beyond their US counterparts.
What I love most about Canadian culture is the appreciation of family roots of each sect and group within Canada, building upon a "mosaic" rather than settling for a "melting pot". I love the way Canadians care about the wellbeing of a society at large and value this above might, power, and wealth. I consider anyone privileged to call him/herself a Canadian truly lucky.

The same reason why us Canadians make fun of Americans I guess.

I agree with marie, there are types of Canadians that travel to other countires and constantly babble about how great Canada is, etc, etc.... then why did they even travel in the first place? As a Canadian, when I see this anywhere, I get really embarassed, it just makes us all look insecure... really embarassing.

Anyways. I don't think Americans generally care if we're Canadian or not. They view us as a sibling in most cases.... kind of like how we view them. I can only name one time when I was ever actually put down for being Canadian... in Montana at a campground. But I don't blame ALL Americans for that one guy being an a$$hole. There's lots of anti-Americanism North of the border as well, and it ticks me off as well.

Aw, Marie sweetheart, Canadians don't have to "go" to America. We are already in America.

Technically Canada is indeed part of the same America as the US. We just aren't part of the USA. We are, however, part of America itself.

You call yourself Americans only because it would sound rather funny to call yourself United Statesians. lol

Now back to the question. Americans make fun of Canada, Canada makes fun of American. I don't know if there is a country on earth that doesn't make fun of another country. Some people just do that.

A question like this cannot be answered because it is subjective to every person who answers it. It is more of a silly debate and kind of a waste of time. The one and only time I, as a Canadian in the U.S. have been put down is when I was driving in Maine and some kids called out to my car; "f**king Canadian," but this was years ago. You can't tell by looking at me, it was my plates on my car. But I still don't feel put down, or made fun of, until I see skis on cars in July or when they think we drive dogsleds. Then again I am sure it's just a few who know no better.

They make fun of the french more then us. We (Canadians) have as many jokes about America as they have about us. It's kinda like Japan and South Korea. It's a love hate relationship.
