Why does Canada have to pay more for gasoline than USA? |
As an American, I know more than 50% of my gasoline supply is not from Saudi Arabia, it's from Alberta, Canada.
I think as much Americans have to pay for gasoline, Canadians should be paying less than our amount, NOT more!
Back in the year 1998, Americans paid $1.09 per gallon, translates to 29 cents Canadian per Liter.
If Canadians could pay $0.29 per liter at the pump, wouldn't they finally get to enjoy roadtrips all the way from Nova Scotia to British Columbia? Additional Details Also "myth of sisyphus" referring to the Iraq invasion, Bush obviously was wrong to go into Iraq. But as far as Iraq being an 'innocent' country under Saddam Hussein, not sure I can agree to that. That's a separate issue though.
How innocent was Saddam as a leader, putting the US aside for a moment.
Also the oil in Iraq is not what's reducing oil costs for Americans, and that oil money is being used for far more purposes that have no benefit to US profitability. |

The difference between US and Canada gas prices is taxes.
And it's easy for them to justify taxes, don't forget we have the population of about California covering expenses to build, remove snow, and maintain roads for an area larger than the size of the US. Vancouver where it doesn't snow alone has a street snow removal budget larger than California's. So, even though they don't necessarily spend the money completely on roads - that's how they justify it.
So, different systems. Some areas of the US are more likely to have road tolls than we are, and some areas are plainly over due for just raising extra cash through taxes and fix their roads and bridges before more collapse. |

In response to "way2cool".. Our currency is not worth more than yours. Our dollar is worth a few cents less than yours.
And with the gas... the canadian government seems to think it's a good idea to sell our oil to the US instead of lowering Canadian gas prices :P |

Canada=more taxes but prices in Canada are still pretty low for a developed country. Back in the 90s prices in Canada were around $0.50/litre. I think the US is going to pay more in the future due to its economy crumbling to worthlessness. The gap is closing.
Richard K: Update your mind! Its a around a retarded $1.50/litre where I live in Canada currently. |

More road per person to pay for. |

Right now we are paying about 1,30 Cdn. per litre which translates to 5.20 per gallon and since our dollars are about par it's ridiculous. Of course the oil companies and government have lots of excuses. Bah! |

In short, we pay more fuel taxes, and there is less of a demand for gas here since we have 10% of the population that the US does. |

Because Canada didn't occupy and invade an innocent country to steal their oil.
See: I get thumbs down because us Americans didn't want to believe it
Yet, it's true. Anyway. "Ignorance is bliss" as they say.
Yes its off the topic, but using "innocent" I mean the reasons for the war was False. i.e. "he had nothing to do with 9/11" and he didnt have One weapon of mass destruction: the reasons for the war with the whole world opposed to it.
Bush wanted oil, nothing else and lied to the whole planet unashamedly. Now we all pay the price in terms off massive inflation
Anyway.
America gets bigger subsidies cause they drive bigger gas guzzling vehicles.. my answer. Peace |

Because Canadian residents are used to being overtaxed and the government knows that it can always get away with it.
(my humble opinion). |

They don't since their currency is worth more than ours, it seems like they are paying more when they really aren't. Hope it helps! |
