Why does american media only show the negative aspects of canadian life or canadians?

Beginning of Conspiracy Theories so that soon they can claim Canadians host terrorists, are terrorists, devil worshippers, AIDS carriers, Anti-Democratic, or all of the above. And that's just to keep their Military Budget flowing!
They're lucky they got Cirque Du Soleil, or they'd have been reformed by now!

Probably because the media only reports the negative of most things, simply because the audience is more interested in the bad. People like to know/think that out there, someone has it worse, or somehow, they are better than someone.

I agree; propoganda. You have to make people think they are the best thing on earth and should fight other countries so they can be "just like you".

Because Canada is right beside the USA and we seem alike on the surface, the USA wants to show how different we are in their favour.

I lived in the States for a few years, and was amazed at how rarely anything about Canada came up. No wonder Americans tend to draw a blank when asked who our prime minister is, why socialised medicine doesn't suck, whether or not we live in igloos, etc, etc.

A quick search of washingtonpost.com brings up very little Canada-only news mentioning Canada, and very little that's headline news here.

Really -- if aliens landed in Ottawa and announced themselves as QuÃ©bec separatists, it might hit page C26.

On one hand, we're just not that interesting to the rest of the world, and I like it that way. "Free and Fair Elections Held" does not make for great copy. Even 'The Economist,' which has great int'l coverage, doesn't have much to say about Canada -- and the stuff about the wheat board, lumber industry, etc, is not stuff wire services race for.

On the other, it's not as though the US media is bursting at the seams with stuff about other Western countries. Why publicise stuff like good parental leave policies, health care for all, a lack of slums and crime, and so on, to people who -- well, mainstream America isn't the most receptive audience when it comes to anything that smells even remotely of socialism, or greater success than itself. That 'greatest country in the world' stuff dies hard.

Not to be mean.. But i think its because all they know about Canada IS the negative stuff. They dont no a clue about canadians.. people in america dont even no that we have Provinces , NOT states..

I hate how when i watch the news and all americans talk about is stuff that is happening IN usa. AND if i do hear something about canada.. its negative( ironic)

How is that any different than how they portray the US, as a bunch of psychotic gun toatin loonies. Shows like Americas most wanted; Unsolved Mysteries; even CSI would have everyone believing that if they go to the States, they will be shot at. The media, all over the world revel in taking the most pessimistic views, when was the last time you hear "good news"

It's not the American media, It's the Liberal media. All they ever report is the negative side of everything. Just look at how they report on the Iraq war! They never ever show any of the positive things that are happening in Iraq. All they show are the bombings in Bagdhad. I call the American Liberal main-stream media the "Doom and Gloom" media. And they always have something on there that's gonna kill us all. i.e. The Bird Flu, Trans Fats, Eggs.....THey are always trying to protect people from themselves! Do yourself a favor and watch the Fox New Network. They report the real news....usually.
