Why does everyone say that Canadians live in Igloo's and everyone thinks we're esquemos?

We are not, are summers get so hot my uncle actually died of heat stroke, i know thats an awful thing to say but it's true..and even the hottest place in Canada is a desert. it's called osois. all it is, is sand water and Sun, you can actually see heat waves in the air...it's just as hot as california!! and another thing why do people that live in Montana, Idaho, Washington state, all say that Canada is so cold and they have the exact same temperature? and i hate when people say Canadians are rude. if you meet one person and they're rude all of a sudden Canadians are rude? thats not right..no matter what country you live in i want to hear your opinion.

Stereotypes exist about all countries and if someone is really ignorant enough to believe it you can't let it get to you. Some people are dumb and some people just can't be bothered to learn anything about another country.

Sometimes its fun to play along - tell them we never see the sun and that your putting an addition on your igloo this winter.

Excuse me, I have to go feed my pet moose. Can't let him starve eh? lol.

why does it bother you so much? I'm Canadian too. and I have a ball with it. just play along. it's fun to see just how much Americans don't know about their neighbours. "chill" out.... eh

Canadians live very well. So well that we can afford to be generous in our tolerance of young people from other countries who may think that their criticism of Canada is amusing.

This happens a lot in the cancer form where young people tell long involved stories of terminal cancer, but are posting other questions about what appears to be normal life. It's likely that there are people who are genuinely sick but they get lost in the un-funny postings.

Your ignorance towards other culture coming to Canada really makes me think that you'd be happier as an American, because then you wouldn't have to explain our cultures--plural, because frankly, there are Inuit still here, we haven't kicked them out yet (and they are not Eskimos). Perhaps, the reason why you hear from *people* that Canadians are rude, is because you are not very understanding to the fact that there are different culture out there and that when people travel, they expect to see those cultures.

vanillarose627
I've never hear that before.. most people will say it about Alaska, so maybe they're just stupid and assume Alaska is part of Canada XD!

People say these things because they are ignorant , inconsiderate , rude jerks .They are all over the world unfortunately. They don't know the first thing that they are talking about, yet they still ramble on as if what they speak is fact .It's a terrible practice in my opinion.I wish people would get some education on subjects before they start blabbering on like an idiot ............I live in America and constantly see the same kind of ignorant smack-talking about our country you're getting about yours. It's pretty sad that people won't even get to know a place before they start trashing it , huh ?

dman63
I agree; they should do a little research before they make generalizations about our country. I still find the stories funny, though. If an American asked me where all the Eskimos were, I would simply point him north and tell him the INUIT are several thousand KILOMETERS that way. And most of them live in houses.
