Why does gas in canada cost so much? |
$ 1.04 a lter to $ 1.14 lter and in minisoda a stones throw away its only $ .54 a lter i think this country should turn to electric ethenol to run our cars and boycot the gas companys. if we didnt buy it the price would be more realistic. $ 4.68 per gallon $ 5.17 per gallon $ 2.47 per gallon in minnisoda |

Ethanol will be more expensive to produce than people realize. I am for it, but it won't be cheaper. I drive a Honda Insight. All cars should have the hybrid engine and shut off the gas engines at stop lights, etc. |

gas is up everywhere. here in merced ca. we are paying 3.57 a gallon and that's the cheap gas. |

It's the taxes. Gasoline is taxed at a higher rate in Canada than in the USA. Why? Taxes are higher in Canada, because we have a more comprehensive 'social safety net' here (for example, government funded health care).
But the gov't has to pay for it somehow, so they tax us for it. So, next time you fill up with expensive Cdn gas, think about it as paying your health care premium : ) |

Today, April 9, 2007 gas in Winnipeg is 98.4 cents per litre. At today's exchange that is the equivalent of $3.23 US per US gallon.
Gas in Grand Forks today is $2.69 US per US gallon. The difference is taxes.
You have tried to compare a price in CDN dollars per Imperial gallon (no longer used), which is 4.54 litres to a price in US dollars per US gallon, which is 3.78 litres. You have also converted the US cost per gallon to litres using an Imperial gallon as your reference. I suggest a course in remedial mathematics. |
