Why don't Canadians like cold weather?

How can Canadians not like the soft snow? My father is Canadian and my Mom's Thai. My mom likes cold weather and snow like I do, only not as crazy. My dad, on the other hand, simply hates cold weather. When ever we visit Canada, I always want to go during Winter but my dad always wants to go during summer. Snow is fun, and enjoyable. I have never lived in cold weather before, just visited a few times. I live in the Tropics. I remember going to Canada last Christmas and it was so great! Wasn't much snow, surprisingly but was still good. Most winters, I always daydream about how my cousins in Canada are having fun throwing snowballs at each other while i'm siting under the hot evil tropical sun drinking Coconuts. Anyone I meet who's from Canada doesn't like snow. I have met Canadians who have moved to the Tropics to escape the cold weather, I was surprised a little. Anyway, why don't Canadians like snow and cold weather? Ty

Lots of canadian like snow. It's fun to ski and to snowboard, ice skate and play in the snow...and sometimes, schools off because of it...!! And it's so dreamy. A white christmas is awesome...
Lots of canadians do hate snow too. You catch colds, you have to wear tons of cloths. You have to shovell the parking, you have to prepare your car before leaving home (may take up to 30mins) ... your feets are wet when you come home. It causes car accidents, it's hard to drive sometimes when there is a snow storm.
As a Quebecer, I have a hate/love relationship with snow. I think most of us do. We love snow, but it's harder living with it on a day to day basis then when on vacation, I guess;)

That's a pretty general statement... and not true. There are people who like the cold, me included. There are people who do not. And there is always going to be someone bitching no matter what the weather is. Can't please everyone.

Probably not a case of hating it but sick and tired of it all the time. No snow in Thailand so its a real novelty still to your mum. The wife grew up in snow and cant really stand it but I didnt and I love the stuff. Then again she loves it stinking hot and I hate it, having lived most my life in these conditions

well, some parts of canada get BRUTALLY cold! nobody likes it when it's -30 with the windchill.

u r dumb
okay I dont know many people that complain ...actually people I know can't wait to go skiing or snowmobiling.
yres we do go to the tropics .My parent moved when I was 3 yrs old from SOuth America. We have great summers as well . We have the best of all seasons.Ask a canadian if we love our country ! and then you'll see. Many americans travel to the tropics as well from new yourk ,detroit ,michigan etc and they share the same winter temps as many canadian cities . they also travel to the tropics....so really wahats your point?

I'm Canadian. I Love cold weathers and alot of snow. I can't stand hot weather during hot summers.

It depends what your interests are... if you like to skate, ski, snowmobile, toboggan, snowboard, etc. then you probably look forward to the cooler weather especially skating and snowmobiling because those can only be done when the temperature is low enough... can't skate if the ice isn't frozen.. same with snowmobiling... a lot of the trails aorund here are crossed with huge ponds so if its a mild day going snowmobiling isn't an option.

But realistically, who likes being cold and frozen? I love to snowmobile, and we have those days where its cold enough to go but it'll be sunny and very enjoyable. But then theres those 'I don't even want to step outside today' cold days.

You probably have to consider this is not something you yourself live in year round. I live in southern Ontario and theres years where 7 of the 12 months its Winter. And whats funny is most people when it starts snowing they're like "Oh yay, how pretty" then a few months later are like "When is the damn snow going to be gone?"

This is what we go through on a daily basis in the Winter:
- Wake up in the morning, it's pitch black out. If you have to leave early like some people it's still dark when you leave your home too.
- Get bundled up as much as you possibly can (to the point where its awkward to move) and head out the door.
- If you own a car, start it to let it warm up for 5-10 minutes while you stand outside freezing your butt off cleaning all the snow off your car/windows/windshield. On the colder days you have to scrape the ice off all the windows and windshield so you can see to drive down the road. And alot of those days if you have ice on your windows its really hard to chip off. If you take the bus everywhere, make sure you have good boots because you'll have to walk in snow or slush. And the snow could be a couple feet high. Then stand and wait at the bus stop with your hands in your pockets and half your face shoved into your jacket or scarf waiting for the bus that could be 30 minutes or more.
- If you have your own car you then have to drive to work or school and hope you don't get into an accident because the plows did a poor job of salting/plowing or hope that some idiot doesn't cut you off and you slide into another car, wall, snowbank or worse a transport or pedestrian.
- If you work outside you'll be cold regardless. If you smoke you'll be cold when you go outside.
- Then when the day is over, go back to your car and do everything over again: clean snow and or ice off of it and hope you don't get into an accident coming home.

Some days are even "I hope I can get my car out of the driveway because theres 3 feet of snowing blocking it".

I hoped this help and put a little perspective on things. As nice and fun as the snow can be, it can be a pain in the butt too. =)

Speak Thai? Swaddy krub. it's not that we don't like the cold weather, We just like the warm weather more.

You're really generalising here..do you know every Canadian to be able to speak for us all?

I dislike having to drive in the winter, not being able to wear sandals, shoveling snow, and getting colds.

The winter season itself - I love. It's beautiful, and I'd never want to live somewhere that doesn't have similar seasons.

pinkpiglet126
I HATE WINTER. I hate the cold and I hate snow. I hate shovelling the stuff and I hate having my car covered with it.

I hate driving on the ice and in blizzards. Thankfully I live in Calgary so we get a lot of chinooks and our winters aren't too bad.

I prefer my mountains in the summer when it's warm so we can go hiking and backpacking. I'm not a skier.

Last year we went to Texas for Christmas and loved the weather!! Didn't miss the snow at all.

SuZe
There are lost of Canadians that like the cold weather...but me personally, I hate it!
Its great when you're a kid for playing in the sown, making snowmen, going tobogganing & all that stuff,

But when you live with it all your life, you grow less-tolerant of it & it becomes a nuisance for driving & shoveling & being cold all the time sucks!
I could do without it and I'll probably one of those people who winter in the usa!
