Why don't most Canadians cover their ears when they wear the hats even under minus 20 degree C?

Some people just get used to the cold better. After a week of minus 30, minus 20 feels comfortable and I know I don't cover my ears then. It also depends if you are in a windy area or not.
Also, in some social circles (many teens and young party going adults) it is not cool to wear something on your head even at that temperature.

Because we're used to it. We always get these winters. Not everyone is as tolerant of cold weather as I am (I played a six hour hockey game in my backyard in -30) but we're used to it. I mean of course we wear a jacket and heavy pants and gloves and a hat but we don't cover our ears because we're used to it.

I'm not sure what your talking about.... I wear a scarf to cover my ears and so do 2.5M/3M that I see going around. But style is a big thing here. I don't know what you mean by with hats...? b/c I was gonna say don't wanna mess the hair.

Maybe that's the way it is in Toronto; not in Montreal. Maybe not the chic thing to do in Toronto.

But we do. If you're going to be out in weather colder than about -20C, then you should cover up.

Having said all that, -40C is not that hard to take at all IF, REPEAT, IF, you dress sensibly.

I don't know what Canadian's you've seen but I'll be damned if I don't cover my ear's in such temperatures. Alright, I don't always. I'll admit that. Some don't because they'd prefer to look fashionable as opposed to feel warm. Other's would say that since we have the extreme of all the season's temperature that we're just tough when it comes to the elements. ;-)

.....

i only were hats when it's cold,...so i cover ears to keep them warm...
But i don't think it's a Canadian thing,...either,...cuz i live in Toronto and most Canadian don't do that there when it's under minus 20 degree C... :)

Minus 20 is tropical to Canadians. Why bother with a hat?

Canadians have winter weather and unlike countries who don't, we have some of the best winter clothes in the world. With the warmth in the winter clothes, the organs are kept warm then the extremities are warm as well. You get a good winter jacket up here, they are sometimes too warm and you end up walking around with them unbuttoned in -30C weather with no problem.

. .
wht u think they should open it in -20?

Most Canadians don't think -20C is very cold unless its windy too. However the majority of us still wear touques when it is cold out and only some people put fashion above comfort and dont cover thier ears. Trust me when it hits -30 to -40C we all cover our ears or lose them to frostbite.....

Well, I live in Alberta and it does get pretty harsh but still I don't cover my ears because it gets all itchy! And the boys NEED to hear the hockey scores... sheesh! I'm not a fan of hockey... but I do love to figure skate (used to teach little ppls)(kids). But -20 degrees is pretty nice usually in my area its about -35 to -40. So yeah... long answer

This is funny. Come on, in Toronto and cover your ears??

It is not cool. We all have to look good, LOL.

It's like asking a person in Manhattan- Why don't you not cover your ears when it's cold??
