Why is America such a terrible country? |
It's so corrupt and undisciplined. What did Canada do right, that America hasn't figured out yet? |

speaking as a Canadian i don't believe it is. true there are alot of hateful biggotted people over there,(like the moron whose question i answered a few minuites ago) but c'mon, there's 270 million people over there. you are bound to run into some idiots. (like GW Bush)
besides, i travel all over our country(i'm a trucker) and believe me, we have enough a**holes of our own right here in Canada. |

I get so tired of the "sibling rivalry" and squabbles. Canadians and Americans are truly children of a common mother, and both are great nations.
The U.S. definitely has it's troubles, and IMO is headed the wrong direction currently, but nonetheless it has done much good in the world, and contrary to the reputation, not all americans are rude, arrogant, ignorant and the like. Most people who have negative things to say about the U.S. have never even lived here or visited for any significant time, esp. not in the "real" america ... small town and rural areas.
Canada seems to be on a bit better track than the U.S., but as the population grows, there will be more growing pains too, as there already are in regards to health care and immigrant gang activity.
I really don't understand what all the fighting is about. The two countries should join hand, appreciate the differences in each other, and go forward to make the world a better place. And yes ... Canada is the World's peacekeeper, and right now the U.S., well ... let's just hope some changes take place in the coming years in this regard.

I live in the US near the border. The company I work for has locations in both US and Canada. I spend a lot of time on both sides of the border. I can see no big difference in the people or culture. In fact I sometomes forget which country I'm in. The only difference I see is the metric system. |

The simple answer as to why is America like it is - The McCarthy witch hunt. The average Joe has no rights in the US. The union movement which helped raise the average man's wage and improved his working conditions was squashed in the US. Many of their strikes in the early 1900s were violent clahses with the business owners using lethal force against their employees who were simply asking for fair wages, decent working conditions and time with their family. The McCarthy hearings disguised as a hunt for communists basically eroded most of the union power in the US. A man who owns a company in the US is a Feudal Lord and his emplyees are really servants. In Canada, people have rights and laws support those rights. We also have public health care. Thanks to the survival of the left in Canada and most other countries in the world, the average person has a decent life. In the US they don't. The top 10 percent control everything including their government. In Canada, the government can't haul out the National Guard and shoot protesting students like they did in Ohio in the 60s. Sure we pay higher taxes but we all get a much fairer shake for that. I'm glad I live here. |

there's no corruption in canada? holy cow! i must have been reading about a different paul martin who sheltered his company from taxes by registering it in a foreign country. there was a bunch of shadiness with that I think. What about the gun registry? Wasn't there something about the federal sponsorship scandal? It seems to me that with such a tiny population (just under 33 mil vs. California, over 34 mil as of 2000) in such a big country there might be a little more efficiency than there seems to be. A bit more transparency in government. I guess what Canada did right was keep out the additional 270 mil people. |

I think that if anyone intelligent listened to half of what people said on this site about Canada and America they would laugh. I can't belive how everyone is so willing to stereotype both of us!! I have american family and I am a canadian. Just because I don't like their president, doesn't mean that I decide all americans are horrible. I mean come on people, this is almost as bad as those girls who argue over who is better, blonde or brunette. Variety is the spice of life. Ask an intelligent question and give some intelligent answers. That's what this site is for. |

Come on buddy, you can't say America is a terrible country and Canada is such a great one.
The US is a great country and a great ally. We're very close to them, and I think some respect should be shown on both sides of the border. They've been loyal friends, our most important trading partner and ally.
You obviously haven't travelled extensivley through the United States, becuae if you did you would see what an amazing country it is and how much it has to offer. The people are very down to earth, and very friendly... not so much different than Canada.
The only thing I hate about the US is they're warmer than us eh ;)
by the way, I'm Canadian. |

Yeah, ask that question. WHAT did Canada do right?!
If you are American and are asking that question, you haven't lived in a country where corruption is a way of life and the only way to get things done is by greasing the right palms. Too bad for you if you are poor and a nobody.
I immigrated from a SE Asian country, and I can tell you that America is the best country to be in right now. Be thankful that even the top political leaders are not exempt from the rule of law.
P.S. If you are Canadian, how like a Canadian .. full of moral superiority over the Americans. |

if America is so terrible, then why does canada feel the need to duplicate everything America does.....
Ive said it before but it is quite embarrassing how canada doesn't have its own identity....they will be forever known as the annoying, uncool, little brother that no one likes... |
