Why is Canadian immigration so strict?

I went to Canada with my fiance and they asked me so many questions at immigration. Things like would I be planning to move there once we got married? As far as I know, husbands and wives live together so why would they try to intimidate me? Also, I heard Canada is looking for people to immigrate into the country so why this kind of behaviour? I felt very scared, and pressurised and they made me feel it was wrong to visit my fiance.

Trust me, it's worse coming in to the US!!

They just want to know what to expect ... and which direction you are going when married ... and they check for consistency in answers when you cross a number of times.

They are all straight forward questions, and they are looking for your attitude and body language more than the actual answer.

I went through this for four years, and my fiance/husband did coming into the US. It was sometimes nuts! We were crossing twice a month, sometimes more. Now that I live up here, with a visitor visa while filing the immigration papers, I don't have any problem at all! It's wierd, really. (We were married two years before I moved up here with him, because of minor children who had to stay in states, and now are adult)

Anyway, don;t make too much of it, it's just the way customs is pretty much worldwide anymore. You need to look at it from their point of view and all the people they come across who are trying to bend the rules ... it happens a lot. You learn over time how to best expadite the process.

Good luck!!

I agree that Canadian Immigration can be a pain in the ***, but they don't seem to have the huge problem with illegals that we do. Maybe their way is better.

they are just protecting the borders- doing there jobs - keeping the scum out.

That question doesn't sound intimidating. Don't let people get to you and make yourself strong. Do things to improve your self-esteem.

I get the same thing from immigration when I go to the U.S...They tell me that just because I'm going to marry a man from the U.S.., doesn't mean I'm allowed to live there. This is something I already know. You still have to apply to live here, it's the same for me going there. Just because your going to marry a Canadian doesn't mean anything. You still have to go thru the proper channels. Don't just marry him and think you can live here because you married him. Do your research on the subject!

They worry about ppl like us...which is why we get so many questions...you never know...someday I could go to the U.S and just not come back here...that is what they worry about!

Vodka
the reason it is so strict is they want to keep it nice a clean. they saw what happened to america and wised up quickly.
