Why is everything in Canada so expensive compared to America?

This is the biggest reason why I hate living in Canada. I wanted to buy a game so I went on EbGames.com and the price was $39.99. I went EB Games and the price was still $59.99. So I went home and I typed up EBGames.ca something totally different came out. I'm thinking of moving to a better place

Yeah, Canada is more expensive than America. But you want to move because of this?!

Why don't you just find a higher paying job so you can afford what you want to buy.

Alice L
Because the American currency is higher compared to Canada (I'm not sure how to word it), we have taxes. AND because a lot of our products are imported from the america and asia.etc, so its a bit more expensive

Feel free to make your next call to McCoshen Van Lines or some other moving company. The prices are the prices. Either complain to someone who can do something about it, pay the prices as they are or quit whining and move.

The $39.99 US is about $50 Cdn and then add on the taxes...but just remember when you go down there you will be paying for your own medical coverage as well so the choice is yours to make.

First of all $39.99 US converts to $49.52CAD; plus add the cost of shipping and the duty you will have to pay it could easily wind up costing you more than $59.99.

It's probably a better idea to shop around all the computer shops & look for a sale.

Most things in Canada are more expensive, because our market is less competitive. Also, when you factor in the exchange rate, you will find many times that you would spend more in American dollars than Canadian dollars. We also tend to import a lot of items, and this is built into the price of many goods.

We tend to make more in Canada than in the US for doing the same jobs, which means that we tend to have more money anyways. For example, in my profession, the average starting salary in Canada is around $40,000-$45,000 per year. If I was doing the same job in the US, the avergae starting salary is around $25,000 per year. In the end, I strongly believe that my standard of living would not be better in America, despite things being cheaper. American citizens spend much more on certain other things, such as health insurance, than we do.

Fred C
If you don't find a job with a good health plan, your medical care will cost you a LOT more than in Canada. To spend hundreds, maye thousands of dollars to move (assuming you qualify to live in the US in the first place, and then have to possibly pay hundreds of dollars for a health plan, just to save $20 on a stupid game that you can probably find on sale in a real store anyway seems counterproductive.

Before changing countries, you do need a better reason than that.

Dude I know!

We get ripped off hardcore. I hate it when people even try to defend the fact we get ripped off... this is such an enabling factor! The only reason we get ripped off so much is because we allow it.

It's like when customs makes you pay duty at the border when you buys stuff in America.... becuase they feel it's unfair to Canadian merchants. Well perhaps if we didn't get ripped off at home, we wouldn't feel the need to travel to another country to go shopping!
