The CN tower is named after the Canadian National Railway. It was built using the CN's pension funds, and bankrupted their employees pension plan. I know this as my neighbour was left penniless when her husband, a long time CN employee died suddenly from a heart attack, and she learned that there was no money left for her to collect a survivor pension. Guess they were hoping no one would need to collect before it started to turn a profit ???

SteveN
The CN Tower was built by Canadian National Corporation, one of two major rail transportation companies in Canada, most recognized as the Canadian National Railways.(the other is Canadian Pacific Railways)

I think it stands for Canadian National

Ben
not entirely sure, but could it stand for "Canadian National (CN) Tower"??

It is called The Canadian National tower after CN Rail as others have said. it was built as a radio tower because of the new skyscrapers. and was built on the CN rail yard

Hello

It's called the CN TOWER because it was owned by the Canadian National Railway, but i think some American conglomrate owns it now,i could be mistaken.

The CN Tower, located in Toronto, Ontario, Canada, is the world's tallest freestanding structure on land, standing 553.33 meters (1,815 ft 5 in) tall. It is considered the signature icon of the city, attracting more than two million international visitors annually.[1] Guinness World Records has listed the CN Tower as the world's tallest building since its completion in 1976. From a technical perspective, however, it is not considered a building by the Council on Tall Buildings and Urban Habitat, which ranks tall buildings.
