Why is it so hard to find a place in Vancouver!!!!!!!!!?

I just moved back to canada with my girlfriend from Taiwan. We wanted to just rent a room in a shared apartment but no one was willing. Now we gave up n that and are trying to get a basement suite and yet there isnt anything under 1000. There are some things but i would let a dog stay in the neighbourhood or in the house either!

It was voted most desirable city to live in the world 2 years running...$1000 dollars just don't cut it.

Vancouver is constrained by geography. There is essentially no more land to build on. Parts may look empty but that land is marshy and cannot be built on.

Then there are the NIMBYs who refuse to allow new development near them.

Then there is that people keep moving to Vancouver.

The result is a housing shortage. That is why rents are so expensive there.

jump on the skytrain and ride it to the ends in North Surrey. You can rent a house out there for $1000/month and skytrain your only 40 minutes from downtown. with $10K down and a $1000 a month you can buy one of the condos at gateway or other projects out there.
Take a look at Central City area you might be surprised how its changed in that area,

One reason it is so hard to find rooms is the growing economy so you will either have to spend big bucks or live in a hotel

ive been looking as well. you need 1200 at least for a one bedroom and 850 for a studio. try craigslist.com i found this site very helpful. good luck man!
