Why is it that some Canadians? |
Know that there is a US election, but are completely clueless about their own election and political system?
I find it a sad reflection on our country, |

Possibly because there is a great deal of interest in the possibility that the US may have a Black president. And possibly because no one can understand Dion, the PQ is hammering at the same old separatist gong, Layton goes whichever way the wind blows and no one is sure which Harper image they should believe. |

Maybe because the US election has been in the news for the past two years, while the Canadian election has only been in the news for the past two weeks? |

I know alot about the US one and am starting to know alot about our one. The US one is going to be (posibly) revolutionary and I think every country in the world gets coverage. Whereas ours is that simple debate over whether to go Liberal or Conservative this time. That doesn't mean that nobody is interested in it, or that nobody cares, however. |

More like a sad reflection on the media.
More focused on a heap of tripe in the US than in the life and death of normal human beings.
I suppose it's just because they're so scared that the next US president will turn out to be even worse than Bush. Understandable. It's a dangerous world, and American gung-ho-ism just makes it a whole lot worse. |

I don't know, I think it's pretty sad as well. |

We have had some very good minority governments. This last one is not one of them. Perhaps we Canadians are not as unaware as you think. Perhaps we are just bored to tears with another election so soon after the last - not because there was a non confidence vote and not because the accepted 4 years are up but because Mr. Harper thinks it is alright to waste taxpayers money in an attempt to better his position. This has got to be the stupidest reason there has ever been for an election.I hope it backfires on him and maybe the next P.M. will have and show a little more respect for the taxpayers. |

It seams that they take a bigger interest in the US election them they do in their own election and political system.
However, if you look at the bigger picture I don't think it would be quit that simple. |

Because in Canada your vote is meaningless unless you pick the winner. Like in Alberta there are only one or two ridings that have any real chance of election a non Conservative. |
