Yes, Allan, McD is the best measure of a country's economic status. And no, Allan, no veggies.

what about the health care system? don't you think it's more important than eating those unhealthy mcnuggets cheaper? lol

Cody
Well if you didn't eat such Garbage you wouldn't have to complain... The United States is the "fattest" country on Earth, and sure they'll say its cause they can afford the food. But to answer your question, the US has ten times the population of Canada, and considering much of the population eats fatty food, the revenue made within the states is higher, and it goes to a different branch of that comapy (the US branch) not the Canadian, to get the same kind of profits from a lower population that doesn't rely as heavily on fast food, the company has to charge more. Kind of a Supply and Demand scenario.

Perhaps it's because they have more people so they can get better bulk pricing on imports etc...

Is this how to measure which country is better, where you can buy more McDonalds?
I personally would choose Canada anytime, cleaner, safer and much more friendlier than the US. But again I live in Australia (originally from Europe) would never change Australia for either of them. Eat more vege and fruit instead of McDonalds
Good luck Allan

Shelley
We're now judging how good a country is based on the price of salty processed products that we try to pass off as meat...wow.

bart
You are right and a doggy litter is also cheaper in USA and people who are using the Economist's Big Mac economic comparison simply don't have a sense of humor.
On the other hand, the reason why a "fast food" is cheaper in USA, because it is much more expensive there to get a health care, which you will disparately need after eating cheap "mcnuggets".

shep6965
It's the same the world over I'm afraid. Some countries commodities are more expensive to purchase than in your own country and vice versa.

A prime example is: Here in the UK cigarettes on average are £5 per packet, but when I go to The Gambia I can purchase 10 packets for the price I pay for 1 packet here.

Doesn't make sense does it??

I went up to Montreal last month and I didn't notice much of a difference. Seems to me the U.S. dollar buys in America about what the Canadian dollar buys in Canada.

The only difference being the loss you experience when you exchange from one currency to another.

Zoe Dot
it's because the states is huge volume. they have over 200 million people. canada is barely over 30 million. they can mass produce everything more cheaply in the states and they sell more.

Because McDonald's is a U.S. company. If we export from another country, the prices are higher here than in the country that we exported them from. This is usually do to tariffs. Taxes are also put on international companies in order for them to be able to do business in the other country. This happens for businesses that come to the U.S. from other countries also. Many of these taxes are used to promote national business in the country that you are in.

so your basic this on FOOD?
First of all our minimum wage is higher we have better subsidized programs like health care and less political issues if you
if your only criteria is food you are more welcome to move to the USA no one would stop you here

Economies of Scale.

The U.S., w/its population of 300M, can command better pricing w/manufacturers/producers. Tax rates are also a bit lower so that also translate to lower prices.

Tara
Because the States are wealthier
