Why when booking a flight with a candian company am I paying US dollars?
West Jet is a canadian based airline. I just purchased a ticket one way from Las Vegas to Alberta canada and I am being charged US dollars. When i book a flight from a Canadian Company should i not be charged Canadian dollars?? Additional Details I understand i am in US when i book it but if the company is canadian should they not charge candian dollars? i put my info into an American airline site and it comes up USD allthough i put my original destination from canada??
"Hi"...good question and I can understand your confusion actually !
While you are paying for the flight on a Canadian carrier the U.S dollar amount would be pro-rated to the Canadian equivalent based on the exchange rate of the Canadian dollar to the US dollar !
Because you are paying for the ticket on U.S soil you would have to use the "Coin of the Realm" so to speak *lol*.....namely U.S. money !
For example if you were travelling from London England back to the U.S on an American carrier then you would pay British Pounds and if you were using a debit or credit card on your U.S account the funds would be calculated in U,S dollars !
Can you imagine the confusion if you went to a Wallmart store and all prices were based on country of origin and had to be paid in foreign funds ! Wallmart is confusing enough .*lol*
Anyway hope that explains it and while you are paying in U.S.dollars you are actually paying the Canadian equivalent ! *S* (Michael C...)

Because you purchased the ticket in Las Vegas, USA, NOT in Canada
jake.jakobson
they charge in the currency of the country that u make ur booking in...

You are paying in US dollars because your point of origin is in the US. You are booking your flight to fly out of Vegas and the currency there of course is USD , so regardless of whether the company is Canadian you will pay in USD.
I tried to find you a link to explain it but can not as of yet.

If you booked a flight from the US, you pay in American dollars. Period. That WestJet is a Canadian company is totally irrelevant.

The answers advising you that because your point of origin is in the United States your billing is in USD are correct.
I just booked a trip from Vancouver to the States and return with American Airlines. My ticket price was quoted in Canadian dollars even though American Airlines is based in the USA.

Because you're starting point is in the US. You pay in the currency of the country where you bought the ticket. If you were in Canada and bought a ticket, you'd pay in Canadian currency.
