Oh Ace -- it is uninformed arrogant boorish Americans like you that make it unpleasant for the majority of intelligent American travelers. It is a wonder we are tolerated ANYWHERE. You are probably one of those who thinks that if you go to France and they don't understand your English, that speaking English LOUDER is the answer!!
Of course there are cross border commonalities, that come from the fact that we are both English speaking nations with origins in England.
Americans were like England's bad rebellious children who flipped off their parents, left home and continue to think they know everything.
Canadians are like the children who leave home to pursue a higher education, and keep in touch with the folks at home
Given that we share a common border, it's easy to see how trends, shows, fashions, and businesses flow back and forth.
I live in NY state about 3 hours from Toronto, and I love going there. There are much more multi-ethnic and appreciate the things / foods / customs that others bring to their country. I can't imagine why any Canadian worth their bacon would WANT to join our country, but there are days when I look at our embarassing government and attitudes and I sure think about buying property in the north woods of Canada -- That is, if they would ever have me. |

Hmm. Oddly enough, Americans do the same to us.
- USA has adopted (some say hijacked) hockey from us and the NHL is now made up of several US teams that no one down there goes to see, even though the Canadian teams are still selling out each night.
- The NBA most valuable player from 2005 and 2006 was Steve Nash, a Canadian. The game of basketball itself (which is so prized by Americans) was invented by a phys.ed. teacher from Ontario, Canada.
http://www.nba.com/history/thegame_index.html
- The TV stations up here may offer US feeds (ABC, NBC, FOX, CBS), but we also have CBC, CTV, and Global. There is also a regulatory body (CRTC) that require Television and Radio stations to show a certain minimum level of Canadian content. That means the shows must be produced by a Canadian company, star Canadian actors/actresses, or were filmed or produced here.
As for you going to Toronto, everyone in Canada pretty much agrees that it is the most American-style city we have here. Perhaps that was done to make you feel at home and make you want to spend more money here with us. |

Yes we do have our own channels, how about CBC, CTV, etc. etc. We don't try to re-invent the wheel and I don't think you can consider that as copying. If your talking about your American Idol show and Canadian Idol, sorry to burst your bubble but it was the US who first copied the concept from UK. We are not trying to join your country, thank you very much and why would we? We have more to lose joining yours, and absolutely nothing to gain. You can have your Paris and Lindsay running around. Stop being a ---- and mind your own business. |

The laws are not the same in Canada, one example is drunk driving, yours is .08% while in most places in Canada its .05%.
Canada has CBC, CTV, Global, WTN, the History Channel, the Discovery Channel, BBC, many shows on HGTV are Canadian, at least in Canada. I cant be bothered to list them all.
Furthermore an awful lot of your actors and entertainers are in actual fact Canadian. Michael J Fox, Jim Carey, Wiiliam Shatnor, Keanu Reeves, John Candy, Rick Moranis, Dan Aykroyd, Peter Jennings, Samuel Goldwyn, Pamela Anderson, Kim Cattrell, Kiefer Sutherland, Howie Mandel, Margot Kidder, Michael Doherty, Jill Hennessy and Adam Beach from Law and Order, Will from Will and Grace is Canadian.
I could fill several pages, but I think you get the picture.
Basketball is Canadian NOT American, why are you trying to be Canadian by playing basketball? Baseball? The US claims that too -
The first recorded game of baseball took place in Canada, a year before Abner Doubleday supposedly “invented” the game in Cooperstown, New York. This is a fact that most American baseball fans wish never existed. (copy cats)
(sigh) Canada has contributed SO much to the US in terms of survival, entertainment, recreation, transportation, medical procedures and treatments, communication, etc etc
The telelphone, the TV, insulin, there is a long list of things that were invented in Canada and then claimed by Americans, the light bulb, the zipper - there are a lot more but again, there isnt the space to list everything. How about JAVA programming? Do you enjoy using that?
You enjoy Fiber Optics? Canadian. Like flying on planes, many of the instruments were invented in Canada, like the ADF and the EL, and the all-metal aircraft and the jet engine. Sonar was invented in Canada, the electron microscope, and oh yes, the BlackBerry, heard of it?
Have you heard of the Canadarm (sp?)on your space shuttles?
Seems to me this copying nonsense actually works the other way around in a lot of "everyday conveniences" you enjoy.
The flow across the border goes both ways.
You listen to our music, we listen to "yours", you watch "our" actors, and visa versa.
Our laws are British Laws, as in "Britian" not the US, the US has incorporated the same laws into their legal system, with some variations - they did NOT originate in the US, they were copied from British law.
The way I see it is that Americans think they invented everything from lightbulbs to computers, FYI they didnt.
You think the US was the first "civilized" country in the world, it wasnt.
Time to do some learning child, take off the blinders you were born with apparently and take a look at the REAL world.
How many times are you going to post this question? How many names are you using? |

The canadian people are not trying to join the US! We would join any other possible country or planet in the universe before joining the US! Its just that our country is being invaded by US people who buy everything, from monuments to salt mines to sports teams and stores! Maybe its the USA copying Canada, ever think about that? This question just pisses me off! |
|

Whatsthatsmell?

Actually all your laws were copied from Britian as well as ours. But ours seem to function much better than yours.
As far as tv is concerned we got cbc global and ctv.
You have teams in the NHL so you shouldn't be complaining about us having teams in the MLB. Although I would never actually go to a baseball game to watch the grass grow.
You spend large portions of your budget on war machines. We spend large portions of our budget on health care and social programs. You are loathed and hated all over the world. We are treated with love and respect when people find out we are from Canada.
Good luck living in your s**t hole. |

There are a lot of American hockey teams in the NHL ... does that mean you're all trying to be Canadian? We're two separate countries on one continent, with similar economics, cultural input, and resources available. We were originally settled by the same explorers, and there are going to be similarities between the two nations. We don't copy the states any more than the states copies us. Our laws are very different in some respects, and very similar in others, because that's what works in our north American culture. You definitely have better t.v. channels than us, I'll give you that. But I don't know of any Canadians who wish we were Americans. We're proud of who we are, and what our country stands for. We're just too polite to brag about it. |

I guess the States should quit using the following items as they are Canadian and you are copying us by using them:
Plexiglass
Basketball
Actar 911 CPR Dummy
computerized braille
dental mirror
ear piercer
electric cooking range
electric hand prosthesis for children
electric wheelchair
garbage bag
Imax Theatres
insulation
insulin
baby pablum
paint roller
telephone
walkie-talkies
hockey
zippers
etc,etc,etc,etc,etc,etc,
It's time to get over yourself. |

Why does everyone think the us is the capital of the world? We are just trying to be a country with our own laws and customs. And actually, Have you heard of Atlantic Television, Canadian Television, Canadian Brodcasting Cooperation, Home and Garden Television, History Chanel, Global, even The Discovery Channel. Our MLB team has won the World Series. And the least thing we want to do is join the us.
P.S Americans don't know how to spell: chanells, Chanel's |

ROTFLMAO!!!!!
Maybe you should get out more.
The MLB team, called the Blue Jays, also won the World Series in the early 90's and Toronto also has an actual NBA team, imagine that!
Toronto is so great it has running water and electricity.
The last thing Canada wants, is to join the US. The world doesn't revolve around the US you know... |

So why are Americans using our Canadian Flag Symbol on their back packs and other products when traveling to other countries? Ghezz I wonder why? Uhmm. To avoid being shot at, beaten up, killed, kidnapped, robbed, and harassed by other non-American people. Why are you afraid to be American, but wished to hide your nationality and cover it over as an Canadian when traveling? This does not sounds American, but a Canadian want a be. I thought you Americans were proud to be American? Where is your pride? Use your own American Flag Symbol on your own stuff while traveling you copier and hypocrite. Stealing your national identity, ya that is full of Bull crap. |

PPPPUUUUUUULLLLLLLLEEEEEEEEESSSSSSSSS!!!...
The last thing Canada wants to do is join the U.S. Why would we want everyone else in the world to hate us? We're the good guys and we intend to stay that way. Get over yourself for once will you. Read your own message and you will see that even the American education system is lacking. You don't even know how to spell nor do you know anything about history. If you did, you wouldn't have posted such an assinine question. |
