Cities? No, not likely. Small, tiny little villiage in the middle of the N.W.T? Small possibility.
Oh, and dear sweet silly American, please don't try and pet it if you see one. |

LAC0$T3 - b/c for the most part, only Americans are that ignorant about Canada. If you happen to be the exception, you should realise that a good percentage of Americans are not even aware of what languages we speak, what the weather is like, that they need extra postage when mailing things here, etc..... Several personal experiences of Americans driving across the border on a hot August day with skis strapped to the roof of their cars confirms the truth. NO, not all Americans live in a bubble, but it is not unreasonable to assume the person asking this question is American (esp. considering quite a few have already asked similar questions!). I live in a town where we see a lot of American tourists on cruise ships during the summer months.... some observations made: getting off the ship with scarves and gloves on while all the locals are in shorts and tank tops..... someone asking "where are we?", getting the answer "um... Canada I think" (forget the town or province) and followed by the first 4 words (messed up) of "O Canada" sung to the tune of "Oh Christmas Tree" and NOT in a joking manner.... need I go on? How are we to feel when we face things like this on a regular basis? It's not just Canada that the general population is ignorant about, it's the rest of the world, which I feel is a shame. I will welcome anyone to my home with open arms (ignorant or not), but I would expect them to be gracious guests and show an interest in something other than themselves.
And btw, I personally think this is someone just having a laugh based on the other questions.... |

Yes. you can. Right now, in Vancouver, there are 101 fiber glass bears distributed in various places around the city. Most are decorated in various ways, but a few are white and could be taken for polar bears.
Seriously, you can see polar bears in the streets of Canadian cities IF you are in the far north. In the springtime, the bears sometimes come into the towns in search of food. But that is ONLY in the Far North, up in the Territories. |

I know a lot of people here want to think that it is an American asking this question but the reality is it could just as easily be someone from Europe or Japan or anywhere else in the world.
I used to work in Algonquin Park and we literally had hundreds of GROWN ADULTS from all over the world asking stupid questions like this EVERY DAY - not kids trying to be funny. They honestly thought when they came to Canada during the summer months that they would see us driving dogsleds and mountains of snow in our yards and moose and polar bears walking our streets and that we all lived in Igloos. I repeat, none of them were kids - these were all GROWN ADULTS FROM EVERY COUNTRY IN THE WORLD!
As for the person who originally asked this, no you probably won't see Polar Bears but that depends on how far north you are actually going. However, I'll be sure to send a black bear over to your campground at night to eat up all your food first and then you. |

You'll be lucky if you even see one in a zoo!
My apologies to Gardenfoot for using your question as a forum to address other issues!
♥LAC0$T3♥ - please stop this pretense of 'loving' Canada! I see you waste no time in defending Americans, as minor as these insults were, but I have seen your previous posts, where you were obviously very anti-Canadian and had asked some moronic questions that were not far from this one! I don't know if it is a case of multiple users on an account or multiple personalities, as I have stated before, but you seem to be very ambiguous on the "Canadian" issues!
In case you've forgotten, and I haven't, let me refresh your memory! You may have been able to delete your questions, but you didn't delete all of your answers! What about this answer you gave?http://ca.answers.yahoo.com/question/index;_ylt=AnRY8SsrIIZooOirpXE5aRDAFQx.?qid=20060617205801AABDypa
Or this question...Does anyone find it embarrassing having Canada beside the United States?
Asked by ♥LAC0$T3♥
Or how about this question, where you try to convey that you are a Canadian, but you just stated that you are American, in order to state your biases in a passive-aggressive manner...

"Oh, and dear sweet silly American, please don't try and pet it if you see one. "
"You must be American".
"You have polar bears in Alaska"
"silly, silly American"
Excuse me? How on earth do you know that this questioner is American? As an American citizen I find this very insulting. I love Canada and the people are always so nice but never have I seen so much Bashing of my fellow Americans? Even if this person is American ... do YOU honestly think they mean it? Really? Obviously it's a child or some one asking a question that they know the answer to, just to get a response.
I think every one needs to cool down ;-) |
