Will a canadian health card work as id?

From a legal standpoint, a Health Card cannot be used for identification (except when presenting at a medical facility). You can't even use it for backup ID when opening a bank account.

Nope. Cdns are required to have photo ID for pretty much everything.

Not usually because it only has printed info on it, no pictures and most places want picture ID

It depends on your province. In Quebec, they are preferred over a drivers licence, but in Ontario they are illegal to use as ID. It should be accepted in all provinces except Ontario, Manitoba and PEI.

If you are equating it to a passport or drivers license - no it will not work. But as photo id. it will work in most bars etc.

It all depends on what you want to use it for. In Ontario, they aren't supposed to take your Health Card as an accepted form of ID (ie: when purchasing ciggarettes, alcohol, getting into clubs, opening bank account) but as many people never bother getting a Driver's Licence, most places are lenient, as it does have a picture on it. I have used my Health Card many times, as a second or third piece of ID, to back up my Drivers Licence, and birth certificate...............

Ontario ID's can be used within Ontario, as valid ID, but that is the only province that will except it. Some places won't accept anything but a driver's licence(if it's out of province).

Depends on the province,,,Ontario health cards have your photo on them,so they work as photo ID

Depends on what you need id for, but generally no. Picture id is best.
