From a legal standpoint, a Health Card cannot be used for identification (except when presenting at a medical facility). You can't even use it for backup ID when opening a bank account. |

Nope. Cdns are required to have photo ID for pretty much everything. |

It depends on your province. In Quebec, they are preferred over a drivers licence, but in Ontario they are illegal to use as ID. It should be accepted in all provinces except Ontario, Manitoba and PEI. |

If you are equating it to a passport or drivers license - no it will not work.But as photo id. it will work in most bars etc. |

It all depends on what you want to use it for. In Ontario, they aren't supposed to take your Health Card as an accepted form of ID (ie: when purchasing ciggarettes, alcohol, getting into clubs, opening bank account) but as many people never bother getting a Driver's Licence, most places are lenient, as it does have a picture on it. I have used my Health Card many times, as a second or third piece of ID, to back up my Drivers Licence, and birth certificate............... |

Ontario ID's can be used within Ontario, as valid ID, but that is the only province that will except it. Some places won't accept anything but a driver's licence(if it's out of province). |
