You should be able to. I am in Germany and using my American credit card. Call your bank and they will let you know for sure!

You should be able to use it as a Visa card anywhere. And it shouldn't be a problem getting Canadian $ from most ATMs there. But there are additional transaction fees. Check with your bank for more detailed info about those fees.

If you can use your card as a credit card in the U.S. you can use it as a credit card in Canada.

Banff is a major tourist area and will undoubtedly accept VISA credit cards from no matter what area of the world. The charge will be in Canadian dollars. Your bank will convert it to US funds at your end and add whatever charge they routinely apply for transactions from outside the U.S. (You should contact them to ask what that is.)

We use debit cards at ATM's all the time and you should have no problem with that. You'll find ATM's all over.

As to whether a store will use it as a debit card instead of a credit card, that's a bit more "iffy".

Once again, you should ask your bank what charge they will apply for debits from Canadian ATM's. That way, you'll know how much to withdraw each time. (It certainly wouldn't make sense to withdraw $10 if your bank is going to charge you $3 for the transaction!)

It should, but the store has to accept American credit. I live in Germany and there are a lot of stores that do not accept American Credit. Its ****** up but thats the way it is!

For most cards you need to call the card company, your bank or where ever your card comes from and you need to have them activate it so you can use it outside of the US

I don't know what bank you applied for your debit card. Each bank has slightly different policies and regulations, so you should get in touch with a banking associate of your bank first.

Yes, Visa Debit card can be used at millions of merchant locations worldwide where Visa debit cards are accepted, hence the Visa logo.

See down in the states you have these cards that work as a Visa credit card and also as a debit card. Up here we have seperate debit and credit cards. I had a girl come through my cash one day and arugued with me that her Visa/Debit card would work and I told her it woulnd't... did it? Nope. Your *VISA* as a credit card will work. But the debit part of it may not. Make sure you got some back up money becuase it kept denying her debit part of it.

Yes, but....

I am assuming you have a VISA card issued by a US bank. Make certain to check the extra fees that will be charged, not only for converting the Canadian dollars back to US, but also OTHER fees such as percentages for doing the exchange, etc. If you have several debit/credit cards, you may want to call EACH issuer to see which one has the best terms.

Alternatively, you may want to carry at least some US cash to convert to Canadian dollars and/or go to a bank and convert cash from a check.

Yes, you can use your Visa debit card in Canada. Our two systems are interlinked. We also have MasterCharge, and a dozen other credit card systems.
You'll enjoy Banff -- it's really beautiful country. Take a side trip up to the Columbia ice fields -- it's really an adventure! Are you driving or flying? If you drive, you can do a little touring around, either going over to Edmonton, which is not far from Banff, or to Prince George.

Yes, it will work. But you will not be able to use it as a debit card, as in you cannot debit your bank account bu you can use it as if it's a credit card.
