Will there be a lot of taxis in the street downtown Vancouver at 3 am, or is it better to call the company?

There are a lot of taxis at 3am downtown. The trouble is there can be a lot of people wanting cabs too. It sounds like you are talking about the weekend, and when the bars close. So even if you call one it isn't going to help. If it is busy, it is busy and cabs are hard to get. It could take an hour, especially if the weather is bad. However, if it isn't that busy, like these rough economic times and winter it might be no problem.

All those saying to call are wrong. Anytime other than 3am calling might work. But you are more likely to flag down a cab before you get one you call. If calling, the best strategy is to call to meet it just slightly away from the busy areas if others are waiting.

The best strategy is try to catch one at 2:45am.

Best bet to call the company. You don't want to stand outside in freezing cold temperatures for very long.

old lady
You'd be better calling the cab company - there aren't a lot of taxis cruising the streets at that hour.

prebook with the company I find Yellow cabs best

d-arch4ever
Always best if you call the company first.

also, if your heading out to the burbs make sure they know that when you call in because some cabs are really reluctant to head way out of town. Although its not legal for them to refuse some do anyways.

Unless it's New Years or the weather is dreadful, finding a taxi at 3am shouldn't take more than 5-10 minutes. If you're having trouble, walk to a main road like Robson or Davie or West Georgia.

nyninchdick
If you have a cell phone, call #TAXI (#8294). The first available taxi will be dispatched.
