not just Winterpeg. most of Canada gets cold. i have worked at -52 and have seen machinery crack because it gets so cold and brittle. there is an intersection in Winnipeg that is famous for the wind and cold. i think it is Portage and Main. why do you think the sport Canada is famous for is played on a sheet of ice?

Yeah we plug em in. Not to run into the store... but at work and over night for sure.... gotta keep that water jacket warm. My cars a diesel so it especially need to be plugged in.

We just had the first big snow here today so it wont be long till we all have to plug in.

When the winter gets its coldest you plug your car in if you are going to leave it for 4 or 5 hours. This is assuming your engine and battery are in good shape. If they are not it might not start after an even shorter period of time. You get used to it.

We plug in the car at night, specifically the block heater. The purpose is to heat the engine block. We only need to plug it in if we are going to be parked for several hours, not just to go into the corner store.

Yes, we do plug our cars in during winter months. The car has a block heater with a cord attached to it. We use an extension cord to plug in the block heater. The job of the block heater is to keep the engine oil warm. This makes it alot easier to start your engine. And we also use a thinner grade of oil usually 5/30 mix. this also makes it easier for the engine to start in cold temperatures.

At night yes, at work if they can, to pop into the store for 500ml of milk, no.
Otherwise the engine freezes.
It's true for most of Canada.

Yes, in Canada we do plug in our cars when it gets below a certain temperature. It keeps the engine from freezing up so you can start it. If you go to work and you can't plug it in, sometimes you start it during the day and let it run for a bit to keep it going too.

I'm from Winnipeg and I always plug in when parked for more than 2 hours once it gets below -15C! That is like 5F. We get up to -30C (-22F) and up to -45C with the wind chill (-49F), so you can imagine how unsafe it would be to not plug your car in. I have made the mistake before when I used to drive my beater.

I found it funny when I was with an American friend here in Winnipeg and he found it strange to see the little electrical posts at each of the parking spots at the hotel. It isn't a big thing to us. :) In fact, I was surprised to hear of some cars actually being sold in Winnipeg without a block heater!

At night they plug their cars in, but not just to go into the store. It gets cold but not that cold.
