Just me. deal with it.

Would Canada be a better place to live?

I live in the U.S and I was thinking about moving to Canada. I've always dreamt about moving there.
Would it be a good idea to move from Florida to Edmonton Canada?Which places would I want to avoid living? I'm neutral girl I like open air but not too rural.
*side note: how much would college cost in Canada and what are great colleges there?
Additional Details
I really hate Floridian weather, it's too humid and hot for me. And I see 3 Baptist churches on like one street. (no joke)

College is genereally cheaper in Canada than say the Ivy league schools but Canada has serious labor shortages in every area so one doesn't have to go to university to make a six figure salary, anyone who has gone to community college or just works hard can easily bring down $100,000 a year. For example many toronto bus drivers make $100,000 provided your willing to work 10 hour shifts 6 days a week. Our wages are higher but in comparasion to prices everything here will look like a rip off. Things that cost $2 or $5 in USA cost like $10-15 in Canada. So our real wages are actually lower, we sell cars to the US for thousands less than locals buy them for.
Try moving to the suburbs of a major city like markham-toronto.
Our summers in Toronto get hotter and humider plus smoggier than you would be use to in Florida, and yes your skin will get burned even if you are black, I use to play football and could not understand why my skin went from brown to red brown until I went to the doctor and he told me to use sunscreen.
You will also have to shovel snow, and walk through snow heeps and your shoes will get wet, which gets annoying after 4 months of it. Sometimes it will just be bitterly cold, and your skin will feel dry and cracked alot. In fact there is a good chance you will get skin problems because you are coming straight from Florida. I know many African and Middle Eastern people who get all types of skin problems because of the cold, and get use to slabbing on oily lotion. You are not in the south anymore where you don't have to lotion and your skin can stay naturally moist.

IMO you might want to try moving to somewhere with in between weather, but avoid high crime, so Virgina, or the UPSCALE areas of DC, Northern California, Pennsylvania, Maryland, Ohio, Illinois, Wisconsin, Minnesota, Iowa :), or the northeast (massashetucus, forgive my bad spelling) and connectuct imo are probably some of the best states to live in and very much like Canada. Also New Jersey might not be too bad and I heard they cleaned up New York.

Edmonton is continetial so you will not escape the humidity in the summer. Also if you are scarred of crime then forget western canada, Alberta is just like Texas except with the death penalty. In fact Calgary is nicknamed dallas north. IMO the best province to work in right now is alberta but the best place to live is in a medium sized ontario town near but not in toronto.

Be forewarned there are times when you may want to go back to florida, my dad will not stop about how he hates canada cold, there is a reason why most retired candians move to florida if they can afford it.
Honestly speaking for those who don't like humidty Ontario is the only real option, BC is on the ocean and there are times when it doesn't snow and rains for weeks on end. The is a reason why you lose points for trying to move directly to Ontario and nearly half the population lives here. Governments fear that if all the immigrants move here like they want to, that Ontario will control too much population, and everyone else won't matter, imagine if california had like 35% of congress and the senate.

Also unless you have family here, you will almost never get rich and will always be playing catch-up and thats just a fact of immigration. When I was in europe I realized this, that I would never have the ability to live somewhere rent free, so I would always loose a good 1200-2000+ a month for the next 30 years of my salary, so you should be warned that immigrating will cost you at least 1/2 million dollars, so you better be sure you want to do it.

Your problem is not which city you want to live in, but how you are going to qualify for the visa that will let you live and work in Canada. Just dreaming about living in Canada isn't enough.
That said, why not contact the Canadian Consulate and find out how to take steps to make your dream come true? Discover what levels of education you need to have, what professional requirements you need to have, and so on.

Hi there, I live in Calgary, AB which is about 3 hrs south of Edmonton. It's generally warmer than Edmonton because we get "Chinooks" which is a warm breeze that blows over the mountains into the Foothills, which is where Calgary is. We can get as cold as -40C which is also -40F, but the cold spells don't last that long. The nice thing about Calgary is that you can be in the mountains in about an hour. Google Banff, AB and have a look at how beautiful that town is, we often go there just for day trips. To the East of us is mainly farms and wheatfields, to the South is mainly ranches and farming as well, and to the West is nothing short of breathtaking! You can be in Montana in less than 4 hrs from here so we're very central.
There are a million people here, but lots of suburbs so it's like a bunch of smaller towns within a big city. Tons of things to do here as well.

I really don't know the cost of education here, we have the University of Calgary and Mount Royal College, which you could also Google to see the prices.

I think you'd like it here, very friendly people, lots of different places to go and things to do.

Hope this helps!

If you were to move from Florida to Edmonton get ready for some seriously cold weather in the winter time.there are some excellent colleges and university's here.University of Alberta is in Edmonton and it has a good reputation.Grant Mcewen college is a community college and tuition would be cheaper if you were to do a university transfer after two years.vancouver is much warmer in winter and it has the university of British Columbia a very good school.hope that helps

You just cannot move to Canada. You have to immigrate and it takes several years to qualify. And you won't qualify unless you have a trade skill or a university degree.

If you want the Canadian lifestyle and tolerable weather, consider instead Bellingham WA or even Seattle WA.

From my experiences, Edmonton's kind of a hole.

Try Calgary, Vancouver, or Toronto

i live in canada

well canada is pretty good

sure the taxes are a bit higher. but you get free medical care.

i know many ppl that lived in the US and moved to canada.

and if you like open air. i would NOT move to edmonton.

my grandma lives like 5 blocks away from my aunt and in rush hour it takes my grandma like an hour and a half to get there.

its crazy in edmonton.

if you like open air. i would suggest some small city like winnipeg, or regina but if you want to live in a more cultural area THE EAST IS GREAT! the cities aren't all that big and its so nice there

or if you would like some peaceful beautiful scenery then go to BC. although their weather is much like florida.

if you don't like humidity though i would suggest moving inland. but adjusting to the weather could be difficult. so your best bet would be somewhere in ontario where its not as cold or Alberta where they get chinooks and its warm

I live in Toronto. It's nice, but a bit too big for my preferance. I would love to move to Montreal or a smaller city like Ottawa or Kingston. Edmonton seems really cold. BC is too wet. Niagra also seems nice.

University costs about $10 000 CAD (classes and books) a year, depending on what your field is. Some good universities in Canada are UBC, U of T, and McGill.

Girl,no.

Canada is nice and all, but they're having problems there too.

Very expensive place!!! I have alot of family up there and they complain about how bad it is everyday. If you don't like Florida, try a colder state in America like Michigan or any other state in the midwest...it doesn't necessarily mean that you have to move to Canada for cold weather!
