I'd challenge it. I'm a full time university student and always challenge things that are wrong in text books. Just because I know it's wrong doesn't mean that others can tell the difference and they may perpetuate the mistake.

It's not as though your example is just your opinion. One can prove what the Capital is and should challenge them.

What a weird thought ;-) Especially why would this be only the Canadian whose reaction is worth being considered? What about the US students? Are you implying all US students are too stupid to know the capital of Canada?

My daughter and I are Canadian and she did indeed have to correct some mis-information when she was in high school in Southern California. actually, the school was OK with being told the information was wrong. She had to prove her point on line but that is one of the reasons for having internet in all the classrooms.

But knowingly put down a wrong answer just because some book said so would be a cop out. I taught my daughter better than to blindly accept authority when authority is being an a**. I did grow up in the 60s.

I would put Ottawa. That is actually so dumb and it's not like I care about 1 mark. I could totally fight it anyways. Bring in the big guns, like your parents. Or anyone who has ever looked at a map. I don't think he was trying to offend anybody but if that's what they are being taught, why would they think any differently?

I would definitely put Ottawa, and then fight it. Although I may have to speak slowly for the Americans. They should take the sticks out of their asses and actually get something right for once.

I would talk to the teacher privately and produce evidence contrary to what she is saying. Then I would challenge the book with the Dean. After that, I would answer Ottawa and go for broke.

A similar situation happened to me, now that I am an adult and a lot wiser I know you put in the right answer. Then you go OVER the teachers head to challenge it, start with the Principal and if necessary go to the school board. Or even the media.

I always knew it was the education system in the USA that has created so many misinformed citizens.

You are right. So stick to your guns, and take it as high was you have to. I would not be comfortable ever pretending to be dumb just to get a passing grade by giving the wrong answer.

This should be corrected, and looks like you are the one who is going to do it !!!

Could you tell us who the author and publisher of the book is? I really would like to know.

I'd answer the correct question... Ottawa.

Then i would proceed to tell the teacher he/she is an idiot and we should google it and/or look up a map.

I doubt this scenario would ever really happen though.

I would choose Ottawa. Then if that question was marked wrong I'd take it up with the prinicpal and I'm sure he/she would settle it fast. Hopefully to my advantage but even if it wasn't to my advantage I could still take pride in the fact that I know what the real answer is. One question won't harm my school marks for life. I'd still be able to get into University so who cares about one question on a quiz?

being a Canadian I'd tell the teacher they were wrong and if they didn't change the test I'd put Toronto and then make fun of how stupid the Americans are

umm common!! who would be stupid enough to say that toronto is the capital of canada?? well if i was in that situation i would put down ottawa and fight it cause i know that im right.
