Would you support a large Security Camera system in Toronto?

Some people are worried that "Big Brother" is watching and that the cameras could be used for purposes other than their original intent, which is to prevent crime and identify suspected criminals.

In my opinion, if I am in a public place and as long as I know that cameras are monitoring me, there is no reason to fear them unless you are actually doing something wrong.

The times they are a changing. You have people dealing drugs on street corners, drive by shootings, perverts kidnapping or luring children for sex, pretty much anything goes nowadays.

I think I would rather risk the fact that someone will track my whereabouts for a day and catch me biting my nails or picking my nose, than to know that someone got away with murder or some other crime because no one witnessed it or people did not get the description of the perpetrator or their vehicle right.

I am all for it. In fact, Toronto is one of the least monitored large cities in the world.

If you're not doing anything wrong, you shouldn't worry about being seen my cameras - that's my take, anyways.

Love Canada
Yes the sooner the better
Also all clubs should monitor patrons entering and leaving

To make such a system useful in crime prevention, or better policing with higher arrest rates, or even traffic control, you need a well trained dedicated team of watchers who are capable of handling any situation that takes place on the ground. These watchers work in shifts, in some areas of observation, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

My point is that this is far from being a simple investment in hardware technology. It is a manpower-hungry, expensive system, both to install and to run. I am not sure that the good people of Toronto have yet reached a state of such desperation as to justify paying the costs of such a scheme.

i think they'll eventually have to invest in something like that, and i would have no problem with it.
