yes,i'm sick and tired of government taking my money and feeding the criminals.
Jails are bad and don't teach young kids nothing. Think we have to go back in time and start chopping hands of robbers and hanging ppl.they would make a good example. |

No. Canadians who are thinking about this should first take a look at the death penalty system in action in the US.
129 people on death rows have been released with proof that they were wrongfully convicted. DNA, available in less than 10% of all homicides, can’t guarantee we won’t execute innocent people.
The death penalty doesn't prevent others from committing murder. No reliable study shows the death penalty deters others. Homicide rates are higher in states and regions that have it than in those that don’t.
Life without parole, on the books in 48 states, also prevents reoffending. It means what it says, and spending 23 of 24 hours a day locked in a tiny cell is not a picnic. Life without parole costs less than the death penalty.
The death penalty is much more expensive than life in prison, mostly because of the upfront costs of legal process which is supposed to prevent executions of innocent people. (upfront=before and during the initial trial)
The death penalty isn't reserved for the worst crimes, but for defendants with the worst lawyers. It doesn't apply to people with money. When is the last time a wealthy person was on death row, let alone executed?
The death penalty doesn't necessarily help families of murder victims. Murder victim family members have testified that the drawn-out death penalty process is painful for them and that life without parole is an appropriate alternative.
Problems with speeding up the process. Over 50 of the innocent people released from death row had already served over a decade. Speed up the process and we will execute innocent people.

no i don't support the penalty death in Canada because, i think putting someone to death is wrong even though they might have killed someone. I believe that a person should just stay in jail for the rest of their lives and be punished that way. Thumbs down if you want to =. |

If it can be proved beyond a doubt then yes hang 'em high.
BUT jury's are less likely to convict and sentience someone to death if there is any doubt. So it is better not to have the death penalty in so much as getting some of these jokers banged up in jail on iffy evidence for a long time. What I would like to see in Canada is consecutive live sentences not concurrent ones so if someone is sent to jail forever it should be FOREVER and scrap this faint hope clause. |

Definately not!! In the last 60 years alone, there have been almost 40 wrongful convictions, the most famous one being David Milgaard. He served 33 years in prison for a murder he didn't commit and was finally cleared after a simple DNA test. With this many wrongful convictions, its an indication of something in the justice system that is not working right. Until that problem is solved, the death penalty should never be used in Canada. |

Under certain circumstances, yes. I really see no reason why the likes of Clifford Olson or Paul Bernardo should be kept alive at taxpayers' expense. We will kill a dog because it bit 3 times but keep alive a person(I use the word loosely) who has killed more than once. Makes no sense. The dog is more than likely retrainable. The multiple killers rarely are. |

YES- People who deliberately take a life should not be speared. I watch a new story called "Forbidden Love" where mother and uncle born in India. Killed a girl that was in there family and Canada police are not agreeing with the India police on the right solution. This is terrible when others are blamed to get real freedom. GOOD LUCK!! Mother and Uncle are still free in Canada. I'm not from Canada but this should be national law. There people getting away with murder even Governor George Ryan that took precautions in Illinois so he wouldn't be charge with his bad decisions and politics. He is also free. If there is the health problem they get priority over a person that pays taxes and does everything right. |

Yes. I believe in bringing back the death penalty but only in certain cases such as killing cops, prison guards and kids.
I also think drug dealers should go to jail for life it 50 years not
25 after the third conviction. |

Yes
But why only in Canada ?
I want it re-installed in the UK and later all EC Countries.
It would save the taxpayers a fortune. A lifer in the UK costs the taxpayer about £100000 a year, 6 feet of rope costs pennies.
