Right now you can still use Birth Certificate or other Identification, I believe 2008 is when that changes.

Mr. Cool is right..Legislation for a required Passport does not kick in until 2008 I believe...

Until then, it is business as usual...

I have crossed the border here in Detroit many times...nothing at all needed..not even a birth certificate...

The customs officers just look in our car ...ask if we are citizens..nod..and wave us through...

Actually as of 12-31-2005 you have to have a passport to get back into the US. SO unless you plan to stay in Canada, I would get a passport.

birth certificate social security card and a photo id is what my mother in law had to use after 911 before 911 my husband and I only needed our photo id

Accoring to the Court House starting in the year 2006 you will need a passport to enter Canada
