Scottie |
18yrs old...should i bolt for the islands? |
I was born and raised in Florida and the island life runs through my family. Im 18 now and have been forced to Tn for the last 4 years....toooo long. The question is...can it be done? Additional Details Let me add some details. I have a possible job already lined up working for the Southern Cross Club, Little Cayman. Im saying if it went through.... I have been to the islands multiple times and have always had the dream of opening my own dive shop, not to mention decent finacial support from the family (i think) lol but yes this would require me to drop out of college. My best friend is willing to make the trip with me, hands down. i cant explain the urge but does anyone have sugestions of other possible places? |

How will you support yourself? What marketable skills do you have to find a job? Have you completed your high school education? Do you have family in the islands?
The cost of living is also high when compared to the per capita income. Rent for a studio can be any where from $600- $1200 a month. Depending what island you live on. The USVI are not a cheap place to live. Everything is imported.
Here is a link to look over. It also provides answers to many questions you may/should have.)

Go for it kid. But you better have a plan to support yourself before you show up. Get a job lined up that pays enough for your housing, food and other needs. Not an easy job since the islands are so expensive and there is an abundance of cheap labor. |

Beam yourself over there Scottie! Sorry, I couldn't resist! Seriously though, you're just a kid. Maybe a trip during the summer before you head to college. While your there you could check out the job market then, get the education you need to get a great job and wonderful life there. Dream big! |
