2 young at heart divorced 50 yr women going to Jamaica in JAN 2009.?

We want to see the real Jamaica and people and not sit on a complex for 2weeks. Have conflicting reports of Ocho Rios and Negril. Please can someone recommend the best resort that would allow us to walk up to a local bar for a Red Stripe and not be in danger or go for a bike ride etc. Any information woudl be helpful.

Hi I have a home in Jamaica and i would most certainly reco negril . keep away from the west end and you will be fine there is accopanied bike rides but remember the heat ! you can walk about but treat it like any other major city ok . do not show lots of cash and only take what you need with you .good night spots . jungle . very noisy but entertaining ! people watch upstairs is facinating ! mail me if you need in depth info .

Don't listen to the foolishness. I have been to Jamaica many times and have not been in any danger. You will not get robbed and you will not be violated! I have never stayed in a resort and always frequent locals bars, dances and restaurants. It is best to make friends with a local because things are quite a bit cheaper if you do.

I like to stay in Montego Bay, Ocho Rios and Negril when I go because they all have different vibes. If you are only going to one location then stay in Negril. I didn't enjoy The Jungle as it was too trendy for me. I just got back from Negril and stayed at the Sea Star Inn. Check out the website. It is a great bargain and very laid back and casual. It is not a resort really, but it is so nice and the people are chill. Lot's of locals stay there or frequent the place to relax. It's walking distance to bars and restaurants. Have fun!

Go and visit my mate Snow, who lives ot there he is 6ft 5 and very good looking. you will fancy him straight away.
When you get back home you will be able to tell your friends that you had 9 inches of snow in Jamaica

LETS MEET AT HEDONISM

?
Both places are great for a red stripe and both are beautiful, both are paryt towns. You will have fun either way, but be sure not to flaunt to much cash just like any other big city just be yourself and dont act extra and you will be fine.

I'd recommend staying in Negril as it is a nicer area for you to walk around and find somewhere to chill with a Red Stripe than Ocho Rios.

If you'd like to go on local tours and see the real Jamaica, contact us at Cool Runnings Tours and we'll put together an itinerary for you. (info@coolrunningstoursja.com)

All the bars in the hotels are pretty safe. There usually is security on the hotel grounds. Stay together at night and its good if you can stay with the same taxi person if you need a taxi.
I would go to Ocho Rios..
Remember Jamaican men are not wimpy, they will hit on you everywhere. Pick chose and refuse...a smile and a polite no will get rid of the ones you don't want.
Negril is more isolated, that's why I suggest Ocho Rios. However if you like wild...Hedonism in Negril is!
Have fun.

Just don't be dragged into a holiday romance with one of these Lotharios!...they only want you for your money!

Don't think it's safe for tourists, especially women, to be wandering around Jamaica alone.

You will get robbed. Only your age will save you from being violated as well.

I bet you will have a great time though, if you are "up for it" , but watch those credit cards and don't carry too much cash. And make sure those young lads wear condoms.
