I had brought my hair straightener and it works fine in Barbados, but then again, I was coming from Canada.
So I'd say it'd be the same as the States. Currency here is Barbadian dollars. My brother had brought Canadian travellers cheques and got them cashed at the bank. They also accept U.S. dollars but I'd be careful with that as they may go along with it as it may not be actually worth the price as you thought.
People are very friendly.
If you get some spare time from work, you should do some sightseeing such as Harrison's Cove, Altantis Submarine... You can also check out Animal Flower Cave, Barbados Wildlife Reserve..
If you like cricket, they have a final on the 28th of this month. Do check out Kensisngton Oval (sp?).
If you're into golf, you can check out Barbados Golf Club where it's in Christ Church. http://www.barbadosgolfclub.com/ .
For shopping, do check out its capital, Bridgetown. They have duty-free shopping on shoes, jewellery, so on. Check: Harrison's (sp?), DaCosta Mall, Cave Shepherd.
Hope this helps. |

The currency used in Barbados is Barbados Dollars, you get approximately 3.9 BDS$ to the Pound at the moment. If you have US dollars bring them, they can be used in most of the major stores.
As mentioned earlier ATM's in abundance - also major credit cards accepted.
The plug sockets are that of the states so you may need a converter if traveling from UK.
While in Barbados, make sure and visit the beach, St Lawrence Gap or "Club Extreme" for night life and of course dont forget to sample the local rum and "Banks" beer - you cant leave Barbados without trying them.
.
Hope you enjoy. |

Was In Barbados once a few years ago..Us currency will do as many prices are in Barbados dollars, and US. As for the electricity, Im not 100% sure but Im leaning towards same as US.. You may want to check out a few places and things to do...Turtle beach...one of the nicest beaches, The Jolly Roger a pirate ship cruise with drinks and food, and Atlantis, a submarine ride under the ocean...People are friendly, but stay off the private buses...They are cool to look at, but you'll SH-T your pants on them...lol
Have a good time... |

You may have a lot of other questions so I'd recommend this resource to assist, but i did answer your question lower down here:
http://www.tourismrankings.com/Caribbean/
and you might want to compare your hotel deals with this useful site:
Barbados :http://www.cheaperthanhotels.co.uk/Barbados/
Electricity / Sockets: Barbados uses 115 volt electricity, so unless your computer or appliance is designed for this [115 volts ], you'll need a reverse transformer. The cycles (Hz) are 50 per second.
For adapters , Barbados uses the standard North American [ US ] non-grounded socket which is a two pin socket. If you're travelling from the UK you can usually buy these things atthe airport for a premium.
Currency in Barbados is the "Barbados Dollar" - easy to change on arrival and the place is full of ATM's using Maestro and Cirrus [ ie likely to link to your bank card ]
Hope that helps |

Coming to Barbados, I am here allready a month, just leaving to Europe, curency is Barbados Dollar, you'll get 2.65 BD for $1, all restaurants, hotel and bars are taking dollars without problem, sockets and voltage same as in States, no worry about that, one thing in here time is going kind a slow do not get nervous by Bajun culture, the best thing take island pace and you'll love it in a moment, they have nice and spicy Bajun food, people are friendly, beaches just wow, old plantations, farms, collonial stille, Bridge town nice and guite organized, taxi relatively cheap, markets loaded with fresh products, love it, on afternoon a bit windy but refreshing, sea temperatures arround 29 C, did not have rain for weeks, now a bit crowdy because cricket world cup, but last game is on 28.04, so no worry, well hope this will help, enjoy in rasta paradise, I'll miss it, going home in 4 days:) |

Definitely use the Dominican Dollars.. don't go for the US dollars, it will lose alot of money if you do, as they have varying exchange rates for shop to shop and the round it up to suit them... they all make it up as they go along. If you have there currency you can't go wrong..
It is a lovely country with really nice people.. you will have a great time, as long as you don't do too much work-based activities, and get to see the beach..
Use the same plug you would use for the Caribbean, the two-pin plug |
