no i wouldn't have second thoughts about going there it's a beautiful island and if you practice safety there no reason to be afraid.......................and don't go partying with strangers and get into their cars |

Considering how many tourists disappear in all countries around the world every year (including in the states), yet people still travel to them, why should Aruba be any different? |

The only reason why people are still talking about that incident is that it's almost a "man bites dog" story because it's so extremely rare there. People disappear all the time in the United States, so often it doesn't make the news unless it's a slow day or the person is a celebrity. In the islands it's almost unheard of. I'm not saying it isn't a tragedy, but I wouldn't stay away because of one isolated incident. |

I've traveled to Aruba twice alone since the Natalee Holloway situation. I walked all over the island and never felt unsafe. The locals are quite friendly and helpful. You simply have to use some common sense - don't drink more than you're used to and don't go off with strangersl. Insist on meeting people in public places. Poor Natalee had the misfortune of being 18 and, in my opinion, friends who weren't paying enough attention to each other's condition and whereabouts. Aruba is a beautiful place. Go and have a good time. |

Absolutly not! Its a great place and Arubians work very hard on bringing their tourist back. Remember the whole natalie thing was NOT done by Arubian natives!!! Aruba was devastated with the loss of natalie. Never the less its a GREAT location for a vacation. I found it to becomming much americanized but still a beauty!!
P.s: am from there and have been living in the US for the past 10 years. |

I went to Aruba in February and I felt perfectly safe. The people work very hard and staying near the hotels is probably a good idea if you're worried. Aruba is a beautiful place and I felt very safe there. |

I just went there two weeks ago and 35 of my family and friends came as well. We got married there. Everyone there is so friendly and I never felt unsafe. I had the time of my life and loved it. Natalie's story was unfortunate and unfortunately it happens every day to someone somewhere around the world. No place is 100% safe and you should always take precautions no matter where you are.
I hope you go back and have a great time! I know I'll be going there many times again! |
