American woman with bad credit moving to Puerto Rico?

Hi There,
I'm planning a move to San Juan this year. I have bad credit in the US and cannot even have a bank account now. I'm wondering if this will follow me to Puerto Rico or if I can have a clean slate and open an account and get credit again? Are the systems in the states linked in Puerto Rico?
Additional Details
I speak fluent Spanish and French as I have lived 8 years in Paris and 3 years in Madrid. So no, I don't only speak "American".

Sorry but your bad credit is moving with you. Puerto Rico banks and businesses do credit checks. Sorry, but it will take you a couple of years to build it back.

Those "Systems" are linked Worldwide! Your credit history will follow you to the grave. You can not escape by simply moving.

It will show in your credit report, PR banks will know.

LOL, im sorry, but im not making fun of u, will all the respect, im just so impressed that u actually are asking this question, because its a darn good one. Puerto Rico its all about bad credit. industries over here dont care if u have bad credit, actually if u have a clean credit thats a problem, u have to have bad credit in order for the companies to charge a deposit fee that can cost u 200 bucks or even more, and they will make u a new account, for cell phones, and such things.
u may not qualify for a financial loan, unless its small amounts and a puerto rican company. also there are two kinds of banks, there is the american banks, and the banks from spain, such as bilbao, santander, ect. and there are places called cooperativas which are small banks but with limited advantages, such as no atm services and personal checks, u basically open a savings account or in the checking account u could only deposit and withdrawal money filling out a slip personally(no drive thru service). so no, u dont need to have a good credit to live here, otherwise puerto rico wouldnt be a darn good business island.

Why would you think that your bad credit history would not follow you to an U.S. Territory? If you can't open an account in the U.S.... then they won't ever talk to you in P.R..

What kind of job do you plan to get? Can you speak Spanish or is AmeriKan all you can talk... because if you can't use Spanish, then the dead end bottom rung jobs you will be competing for are taken by Puerto Ricans..

You DO know that the unemployment rate is 17 PERCENT.. or over THREE TIMES as high as in the U.S.... right? You also know that even a cheap apartment will cost $800 to $1000 per month... right?
