Calling your parents by their titles rather than their names is not a matter of maturity, its a matter of respect. By the time you become an adult, especially one with children of your own, you should have a much greater respect for what your parents went through to raise you. That is all the more reason to honor them with the titles that they have earned. Anybody can have a child but you have to put in the time to be a Mommy or a Daddy.

ok, stevie, Question...are you going to put God out of your thoughts and call your parents anything else but mummy and daddy? are you going to just decide that 'you are an adult' so you going to call them by their given names?

I mean, in joking we sometimes call our parents by their given names, but you could see yourself talking to your mother or dad and saying 'Doris, look at ......" or "Franklin, tell Doris that..." and feeling comfortable?

Its the way that we are, we call our parents mommy and daddy, there is nothing childish about it and we will do it until we die. And it definitely ent nothing to be ashamed about.

i always my grand parents - mammy and daddy, my aunt works where i work and i call her Aunty Judy, so much so that everybody calls her Aunty Judy. and every body else's parents are mommy and daddy. its just the way we are, and i think that our parents appreciate it because it shows that we still respect them enough not to be calling them by their given name.

I'm American and I call my parents mommy and daddy. It just feels weird to me to call them mother and father or mom and dad.

I try playin brave when I was younger once & call meh mommy by she 1st name.. one day she call meh & I answer she sayin "Yes Vidya" all I hear is silence and WATAPPPPP.. one hard slap... neva again.. I'm 26 & I does still call she mommy.. & yea I does call meh dad daddy..lolz

Honey there is nothing to be ashamed of when calling your parents mummy and daddy. I aunts and uncles who are 50 cal their parents mummy and daddy. As for your friend tell her she just jealous (lol).

My Taiwanese friend calls her parents Mommy and Daddy. I don't know why your supposed best friend would laugh at you for anything.
